ok guys i've got one for you. I just bought a 96 with a 420a for $200. The car is in great shape as far as body and interior, however, it wont start. The previous owner had already replaced the cam position sensor and the coil pack got fed up and gave up. I have checked both the fuel pressure and to see if it has spark and I have neither. Iconsulted a local dealership and received no usefull information. I replaced the ASD and fuel pump relays and still nothing. When I turn on the key I can here one of the three relays clicking but no fuel pump whining. I understand that it could be the crank position sensor preventing spark but not the fuel pump. The car was runnong fine, parked in driveway and never started again. I had a 95 eclipse with a 420a that had exactlly same problem. I replaced everything but the ECU on the eclipse before finally selling it. Are the ecu's problematic on these cars? Any suggestions? Please HELP!!! By the way I have scanned it with an OBD2 scanner and it returned no codes?

Hmm. Pull the fuel pump and give it a direct feed, see if it kicks in. It could be your ignition. Another member on here had that problem. I'd also check for an ECU, if there is a member near you, maybe you could swap it, just to test it. This may sound like a really dumb question but did you try to jump the car? There may be enough juice to turn in your accessories and not enough to charge your primary systems.

Mod List. Um WAY too many to fit on here. But the engine can handle about 800HP
Another thing along the same lines is take your battery terminals off the battery and give them the best cleaning they have ever had. My Avenger did that one night, would turn everything on but then when I went to the start position everything would click off and it was dead. Took me 3 days to figure out that my battery terminals were really corroded inside, to the point where I had cleaned them and it still would do it. I soaked them in battery cleaner overnight and tried it again and it started right up.
Also is it cranking but not starting or is it just dead?
Battery and all connections are fine. I am using the same yellow top optima that has started my s13 everyday. I checked to see if i have voltage going to the coil and there is none.i attempted to remove the crank sensor today and the connector come out but the actual sensor stayed in the block. I am pretty sure this was part of the problem. Still not sure about the fuel problem. going to take the oil pan of tomorrow and try to remove crank sensor from inside out.

ok i got the crank sensor out and the the actual magnet part was trashed. my question is this: I have read elsewhere that if the euc doesnt receive a crank signal it shuts down the asd relay and when the asd relay shuts down it shuts down the fuel pump relay ground, does any one know if this is correct?

what does it mean when the check engine light doesn't light up when you first turn the key to the on position. And im sure the bulb isnt burned out. Could this possibly mean a faulty ECU?

Two questions; Is there any way to test the ECU to see if it is faulty? and does anyone else in here with a 96 2.0 know if there "CHECK ENGINE" light come on with the key?

The check engine light should always come on when you turn on the key, that way you know the light is working and it is a test to make sure the computer is working. If it doesn't come on you either have a bad light bulb, faulty ignition switch or bad ECM.
ok the ignition switch is in good working order and seems to be working. The ECU however I am pretty sure is not. I hooked it up to an OBD2 scanner and the only system that seems to be working is the comprehensive. All other inspection/maintenance monitors say "NOT APPLICABLE". What the hell does that mean? It connects to the ECU fine and returns no codes. The other problem I am having now is finding an remanufactured ECU. The numbers are P05269811 and there doesn't appear to anyone that carries this specific ECU except Chrysler. Anyone have a spare ECU with these numbers, that they know is good, that lives in SW Mo,from whom i could borrow it from? Probably not, but it never hurts to ask.

Junkyard or ebay. I found one for my talon on ebay. Works perfectly. And there was a place that would refurbish them if I find the site again I will post it.
