Well yes I know that you have to swap tranny's.. But what im telling you is if two cars came stock outta the garage.. A 2.5L V6 w/ a 5 speed, and an l4 5 speed.. The 2.5L v6 will walk all over that car all day long... With a standard your keeping your car up in that power band.. The automatic isn't allowing you to do that as easy.. You have to really play with the throttle to get your car to stay in the power band.. My best friend has an ecotec 2.2l cavy w/ a k&n air filter (not a full intake).. I have a hard time keeping up with him in the quarter mile.. I can beat him off the line and down the road the whole time when im in first.. Once I hit second its a excrement gear and I can't catch him again till it hits 3rd.. Once im in 3rd i can beat him anywhere we go.. But he can easily come up on me cuz he can run his car hard and down shift, and hit that power band... I can't do that.. I'll blow my transmission if I wanna do that.. Thats where having a manual really works great =)
Yeah, I eventually am gonna get a tranny switch to a manual and engine swap. With a couple mods here n there, I'll be able to take on some of the bigger guys..hehe.. Last time I raced...a long time ago..smoked a greed dodge caravan so bad when I turned around i swore it was white...before that, one of my friends had a 06 eclipse..4 cyl rated at 162 hrses. I was just able to keep up with him...when I raced though, I was all stock basically. Now I got some stuff I wanna try out...heheh..anyone up for a race in NY?
Nice.. My buddy has a little cavy.. I can't take it in the 1/4 mile because of my 2nd gear rating LOL.. If he had an automatic i'd smoke him.. But that little 2.2l ecotec w/ the 5 speed runs better than I thought it did.. But he still can't catch me out in the open when im in 3rd hehe..
If you had just an K&N filter it mighta helped you enough to pull ahead of him.. Its surprising that those filters help in performance the amoutn that they do.. Not saying that they are amazing and give you 10 hp or something.. But its definately nice to have another 1/2 - 1 hp for our car on just a filter.. I think thats what it was rated on the dyno test atleast from what I was reading about because of the way the airboxes are built.. Could be wrong but oh well.. Atleast it helps with another 2-3mpg on the car :-D
well, i thought about getting one of those cone filters that auto zone sells for now, until i can afford a cold air intake. my friend put one on his 1999 Grand Am SE and he can keep up with me a little better now. I think I still can beat him It also made his car alot louder. sounds cooler.
Well the thing is you can only do SO much with an intake before it starts affecting you.. Sure you can make it all beefy and say oh man i got all this air forced in there and its so badass.. But whats that gonna do for you? You can only take it a certain amount before its overloading it.. When your trying to force to much thru, its gonna cause a decrease in performance actually... So its the same as having a really restricted airbox LOL!! And most likely without work to the corvette one, theres probably some issues there..
well....hmm....I'm hoping that's not hating Im sensing...but its an intake for a corvette...a corvette intake....it was MADE for a corvette...but now it's on mine...and it routes COLD air from OUTSIDE into the intake manifold....and no...not really forced air....
Im not hating either at all.. I wish that you could have a completely wicked setup on just an intake to get you some good power plus really great gas mileage, but unfortunately you can only get to certain degree of performance before it starts affecting you..
The dual is most likely representing its setup so that its pulling the air in on two places.
Most intakes are designed to take cold air from outside and run it into the intake manifold. Thats what intakes are for. You don't want warm air runnin thru otherwise your performance is gonna be about as good as a GEO Metro with 5 fat bastards sitting in it..
The thing im not understanding is how does this Corvette Intake benefit you anymore? If its directly made OEM for the Corvette, how are you using it in your bring properly? Im a bit confused on it.. Without any types of modifications, or changes to the intake manifold, I don't understand how its gonna not force to much, or force in the correct amount for a performance addition. If your understanding what im getting at? Not trying to be mean or act like I know everything lol.. Im just a bit confused?
But like I said.. Just watch, to much forced air can hurt you just as bad as a restricted air intake..
ok..seems like I should tell you guys about what I have...its NOT forced air. It's just air travelling at a much higher velocity than oem. I basicallly took the whole front end of my sebring apart and setup the intake for dual air. THe intake is inside my front bumper. Y dont you guys take a look. I have it on one of my pics on cardomain.com..just check out the link below.
That sounds pretty sweet, I definately want to check that out.. Do you notice a difference in your MPG and performance? Im sure its a slight difference, nothing to really get your car really pumped LOL =)
ah, now I get it. Dual cause it splits and... yeah, that makes much more sense. Thats pretty cool and definitly a unique idea. I would like to see pics of the way its routed in your engine compartment and everything. Don't worry, I am not interested in stealing your design (I want to fill that space with a turbo) but I am very curious.
It sounds a lot different actually...I took it out..then it went back to the way it sounded initiallly..I'm going to put it back together again..I'll take some pics of how it's routed...I dont have stock foglights...so it goes around that metal thing that holds the lights and goes towards the middle from the left foglight. ..plus I shaved 30 pounds with all the stuff I took out...I mean..I wont ahve a five star crash rating..but..really..I dont plan on crashing it...my new fenders are lighter..and my hood will be lighter when I put my scoops in...of course I'll be cutting chunks out...so there IS a point to all my mods.. I thnk I'll end up taking at least 50 pounds off my car when I'm done...so I WILL feel a lotta difference in the end.
