Help with A/C unit in 95 Avenger ES please...
« on: March 31, 2006, 06:47:58 PM »

I have a 95 Avenger ES with 80k miles (sole owner). I am not sure exactly what the problem is with my a/c. I had the compressor replaced and at first it was working but eventually stopped. I thought the compressor went bad again because it stopped kicking on. It appears the compressor will kick on and off whenever it wants, after turning a/c on of course. I was told this could be an electrical problem involving the unit. Can someone please tell me if that could be the case and if so, what part to look for? After not using the a/c for almost a year (car was sitting) it still had freon in it so i'm assuming the compressor should be ok. If I need a new compressor, is it the same compressor in the ES as in the 2.0 liter base model or do I need to find a compressor that came out of an ES? Thank you for your time.

I'm not really up to speed on A/C units on any cars, but I'm going to be pulling my compressor out soon, and it worked fine before I pulled all the lines off.  If you want it PM me.  If not no biggy.  I'll do some research on A/C and see what I turn up.  Although I'm sure Nykon will jump in before I get my answer.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

Umm well... here is what I know about A/C.  You push the button and cold air comes out and all is good.  If not... roll down a window.

Ok but seriously, first thing I would check is any relays related to the A/C, I think there are, or is one in the fuse panel in the engine compartment, if you would like to know how to test them let me know and I will PM you or post it up here for general use.  If all the relays check out I would check to make sure you have enough freon and oil in the system.  If either of these are low it will cause the compressor not to click on.  I had a similar problem with a Rustang (I hate Mustangs, just so everyone is clear, well except the new ones cause they are neato and fun to drive, and Saleens, and the original ones) and that is what it turned out to be.  Charged the Freon in the A/C and everything was good.  Other than that... I am still working on my A/C certification so I just know the very basics.

Let us know.

Thanks for the fast response Dark and Nykon. I will have someone look into the relays. My car is in Tucson, AZ and i'm in Michigan at the moment. Hopefully I will get to work on it first hand within a month. I never thought about checking the fusebox, would be so nice if that's the problem. Anyways, thanks again and I'll try to get an update as soon as possible. I'm glad I'm back with ASOG Smiley I was gone for a while so I think my account got deleted. I missed the wonderful help here and hope I can help in some way.
