« on: March 21, 2006, 05:04:06 AM »

I have a 1997 Avenger 5-speed and I can achive a 0-60 time of the lower 8sand toped out a 136. I've had many people tell me that my information is wrong. I don't believe them. My car is stock, with a slight mod to the airbox. But thats it. Someone back me up here.

Best way to back up your facts is to go out and get an official slip time.  That's pretty much the only way you'll prove it to any serious car guy.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

Slip time? Sorry, but I don't know what that is, and how do I get one?

Drag strip? That's the only place that I know of.

Here is a link to some 0-60 times. If yours is stock except for the air box, your watch must be broken if you are clocking yourself at a sub 8 time to 60 mph Cheesy. Just kidding, but here is what the pros say:

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html

It actually has my TSX at 7.5 secs. I thought it was a little slower than that?

That site sucked. One, it didn't list my year. Two, it said i should get 10 sec 0-60 time. BULLSHIT!! I'll go out and test it again today, but I'm DAMN sure that I've made it in the mid to low 8s. And thats with someone else in the car with me. So thats TWO people that have witnessed it. I don't know what to do.

Ok here's some more info, this time for your year (1997):

http://www.edmunds.com/used/1997/dodge/avenger/6/specs.html

Edmunds isn't always right, but they are usually very close. The only way to know for sure is to hit the track.

That site isn't much closer on my times. I've been there before. Sorry, but I'm sticking to what my car says over what the net does.

I would stick to what you saw too. Like I said, edmunds, like most of the 'net, isn't always right. If people don't believe you, just tell them to line up. Then prove it to them!

Hell, with a few mods, you probably can get that time even lower. Good luck!

I've been thinking of saving up for a V2 Cold Air Intake but all I can find is one for over $250. I don't think paying $250 for less than 10 HP is worth it. Is there anything that I could use that money for that will get me more HP for my money?

If I were doing intake work, I would just make my own. Its much cheaper to buy a cone filter (I think a 3" will work) and attach it to the intake tube. It will be a lot louder, so be warned. Really easy, and should cost from 30-50 bucks.

You can also look for a 96-99 Eclispe (non-turbo) intake on ebay, or just somewhere on the net. That will also work for your car.

Header and exhaust will cost a lot more. Check out www.exileracing.com for details on that.

Keep us posted!

an intake is an intake.  Don't spend a whole lot of money for a tube and a filter.  You can find them for around $50 if you look hard enough.  Try e-bay.  I think there have been more than a few of us that have spent too much on an intake.

I felt the same way about intakes until I got my V2.  I'm not a physics instructor so I can't tell you why it's better, but I've had on an Injen intake that didn't seem to do much.  And a buddy of mine made one for me that felt pretty much the same as the Injen.  But hte V2 is way better.  You can actually tell the difference.

Hmm I will look into this more.  Spendy spendy though.  I found out today that my iceman intake for my avenger won't work with my eclipse, the eclipse is a bit shorter in the front and there just isn't enough room without taking out my splash guard or having it rest on the lower radiator hose so I am in the market for a new intake anyway.  Meh.
