Transmission fluid
« on: March 17, 2006, 02:49:30 AM »

My transmission fluid i KNOW for a fact is leaking, I have to add at least a quart of transmission fluid at every oil change or so. I planned on opening the plate underneath to check for leaks. Are there any suggestions?

Can you see where the fluid is dripping from?

if you go to change your trany pan gasket....may as well swap your tranny filter for a new one...but check and be sure of  your torque specs for those blots....I over tightened mine and tore the gasket...it lasted 2 months before i had to do it all over again.....i'm not sure on the amount of torque required...but make sure to look it up first.
I hope that helped.

Leak could be from the pan or torque converter.

Sometimes bad shifting can be fixed by power flushing the tranny and torque converter. I had good luck going to a place called Aamco. You can have it done most places as far as I know.

ok, I think I'll go with the tranny and torque converter flush and  tighten the bolts...Then I'll see what that does. Thanks for the help.

I would try to flush and filter it, make sure to use the proper fluid, don't put a pan gasket on it, just use RTV.   See if that helps.   Also there are many places it can leak like a drunk man.   One is the solenoid shift pack, one is the cooler lines at the trans or the radiator, and the third is the final drive seals/cv axle shaft seals, they seal the axles as they exit the differential.

if anyone sees a problem here you can let me know, or if you can add anything please do so.   Good luck

I went through a lot with my trans and now it is in pretty good shape.  160K miles and still running without a rebuild.
