Ok here is my story, my 97 Dodge Avenger with 150k miles is starting to mess up. I know my tramission fluid is leaking, but not sure if this is my problem. Here is my problem. When I'm driving, along and any speed really and slow down just a tad sometimes, my transmissions slipps and I end up with high rpm because its like the car is in neutral but its still in drive. I then have to accelrate to help the car get over 4rpm and that sometimes fixes the problem or it will click over itself sometimes.

But here is the kicker, if I put tranny fluid in it wont do this for a couple of days?Huh WTF???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

But when I check my fluid, i still have a decent amount in there, so you're saying the leak is running onto something else?

can you see where it is leaking from, and how much are you adding? i'm not sure i'd run out to fix the leak if the tranny is dead anyways.
there are no bands on this transmission, but these things are not the most reliable. first thing to do is check the fluid. you don't want to see dark brown, burnt smelling fluid or metal shavings in the fluid. it should be red. but if you're adding a crapload of fluid you may not be able to tell.

Sounds like to me your trany is bleeding to death.. you wont burn the bands, it dont have any
however it has 5 seperate clutch packs and my guess is their allready glazed or toasted..
