stopped by a couple tranny shops to get some estimates on installing the retaining brackets. didn't really get the answer i wanted to hear. one place quoted me $200 labor just to install the brackets. his plan was to pull the axles and drop the diff right out. so is it necessary to pull the diff out to install the brackets? is there any chance of getting a wrench on there with the diff still in the tranny? i've got to stop by the other place later..i would rather not have to do this myself.
call it what you want but at my shop a simple fix at this time no failures, we simply run a wire feed weld bead across the pen on each end, havent had a failure yet and been doing this for years...Of course were in the process of a rebuild so I dont know if this can be done in car safely, possible fire hazzard but unlikley.. you can get the rear cover off in the car so you should be able to get the brackets on however the ring gear bolts are going to take a big air gun to get loose...Roger Reynolds
i put the brackets on myself. its relatively easy, although getting the differential cover off was the biggest pain in the ass. it's a tight fit for any tools.
