Lost 5.5L of oil in the span of 24h (obviously I filled it up a few times ) Looks from what I can see to be leaking on the passenger side on the back of the block. I see some coolant residue on my oil cap as well. Needless to say the car has been parked at work since Friday. Looking for info on difficultly level (not for me but my mechanic) and estimated time on how long it take to do this? I'm hoping for a small investment I can get it up and running then grab a new car. Basically I'm trying to figure out what I can afford now that I bought a house (chances are not much ) Anywho... if you've got the info please let me know! Mike

Well, to pull the head of isn't that bad. Maybe 30-45 minutes. Puting it back on is about the same. Timing is the pain though. Ed just paid 820 for timing and a water pump. I'd say get the pump replaced while the car is apart. Save you the money down the road. I'm assuming it's the I4 if it's the 6 I don't know how long it takes to pull a head off of that.

Anywho, I'm not replacing the t-belt or the water pump I'm going to dump the car, I do need it drivable though which is my current situation... Maybe some welding... This is fun.. oh and it's moving week so this has thrown a wrench in things... woo hoo

I would go anywhere but Midas, just for the record. I work in the Automotive industry and your best bet is someplace that isn't a national chain like that and that has ASE Certified people. NAPA Autocare Centers are usually great places to have work done.
just food for thought.

I second that, stay away from Midas unless you got plenty of lube laying around. That 2100 dollar quote is ridiculous. I dont even wont to go into details about my horror story, but they seriously overcharge even for the simple jobs. Do what Nykon said and check around NAPA centers, you'll save alot of money. Too bad I didnt find that out in the first place

Oh believe me I'd never go to Midas for something like this, I was just morbidly curious.
I'll see if there are any napa places in Ottawa...... not sure..
Thanks gents!

oh Canadia eh? ack sorry. I think it might be UAP up there not NAPA. Same company different name. You can go to www.napaonline.com and punch in a zip code and I think that will give you all the shops in the area that are AutoCare Centers. Good hunting.

Hey Mike, Good luck with your car. That sucks.. tho congrats on the new house! Too bad we're not closer to lend a hand. We do have NAPA up here in Canada as well as UAP. Just depends on the place I guess as to what they call it? I get all our parts at NAPA as they give me deals. TTYL Jill

Good, I am glad to hear that our stores up in Canada are taking care of the ASOG people. I know the group here in Oregon liked to refer to me as the ASOG parts b!tch.

All done, crank seal (Front) was cooked too, that explains the copious amount of oil leaking out. Anyways all said and done for 1G which is pretty damn good. BUT the dude said my ball joints are COOKED. So luckily I found a car in Mississauga and will be making that trip this week Cheers!
