Speakers
« on: March 07, 2006, 12:32:42 AM »

Im in the process of changing a lot of my speakers out. I have a 200watt JVC Radio which im putting into my venge in replace of the stock radio. My question is for a few of you guys who enjoy listening to rock and roll? Is there any specific speakers that are pretty good to holding up with a 200watt stereo. I need a new set of 6x9's and the two for the door (6 3/4 I believe).. Any ideas?
Any input is grateful. Thanks!

Depends on what you like.  There are all kinds of brands that will sound good.  But 200w isn't a lot considering high-end speaks run off of their own amps.  I'm a R-type fan.  But if your looking for just some good sound Infinity reference is good for cheap.  They're not great speakers, they're better than factory but you're not going to be rattling your rearview either.  I don't know what direct fits there are out there, but the Alpine I used needed some cuting to fit.  Polk also makes a good low end speaker.  I say save up get an Alpine f540 and run r-types off of it.

Hrmm.. Interesting. I didn't understand much of what you said hahaha.. Im stupid with car audio. Im used to Aiwa, Sony, RCA, Pioneer and stuff.. Thats the type of stuff I usually use.. Of course I know who polk is and Alpine.. I dunno what u mean by R-type however.

As for the infinity system... I have no clue at all.. I looked in the truck underneath the 6x9 pulled up the carpet and didn't see any amp.. I don't know where it would be, where I need to look or how to tell if I have it.. My stock stereo receiver in the front has of course the EQ where I can balance it in the center or more to the left/right (you get what i mean).
And it came with CD/Tape.. But I don't know anything else? :-(

R-type is an Alpine line.  Arguably the best from Alpine.  I think that the headunit would say infinity on it, or on the speakers, but I don't have ANY experience with the stock infinity system.  Jeff would be more help.

If you want 6 3/4 I would recommend Kenwood's Excelon series.  The KFC-X170's.  I just bought a set for my Eclipse and am going to install them on wednesday.  They sound good off of deck power and sound great off of an amp if you would like to upgrade later.  Plus they are 6 3/4 instead of 6 1/2.  I also agree that the R type alpines are an awesome speaker.

As far as the infinity system.  To find out if you truly have it or not look at the bottom of your back deck in your trunk between the 6x9's and you will see an infinity amp if you have the infninity system.  If its not there you most likely don't have it or it has been removed.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, you should be able to see it if you pop the trunk.  It will be black with gold stickers on it that say Infinity and have a bunch of wires going to it I think on the passenger side.

the infinity amp is between the 6x9's right in the middle.....also the stock 6x9's also say infinity on the magnet.....as far as 6x9's go i have sony xplods in my venge and they sound pretty good....if you like rock and roll i would suggest getting 3 or 4way speakers (with the extra speakers in the middle) those will bring out your high frequencies alot better and also if you want them to get real loud you could consider getting a 2 or 4 channel amp to go with them... as far as the infinity system goes there is one other way to check.....if you have 2 tweeters in the dash that also means you have the infinity....

Don't fret man.  I tell people not to put oil in.  Just because I think it's funny.  Oh your tire's low, don't put any oil in, it's weighing down your car.

Ha! Cheesy  I need to try that.  I have told people to take the part off their car that was supposedly causing the problem, set it aside and replace the car.
Blinker fluid is another favorite... yep yep... good times.
