Gauge Lights are out. Options?
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:04:25 AM »

Some of the lights in my gauge cluster went out & its really annoying.  To fix this, I have some options.

1: Replace the LED's
2: Indiglo Gauges

Now I know the led's can be replaced but how difficult is it?   I have Silver Overlays on my gauges so thats not a problem but do I have to take them off to replace the lightbulbs?

As for indiglo gauges, I think there cool but I dont want to get them with the Hvac the same color.  If I do get them, what is all involved in the installation & Do they make them for the Hvac or not?

Replacing the LEDs are easy if you go that route.  I have overlay gauges for both my dash and my HVAC.  So I'm sure you can find some.  I think Bad Venge posted a link in one of the other topics for a place to get good overlays.

I have an extra gauge cluster around here somewhere. How many bulbs are you looking for?

I think I need 2.  The one by the coolant temp & at the top of the Tach.   What do you want for them?

Everything I've looked at had a redline at 6,500.

Darktengu... Does your guages show a redline at 6,500 or 7?

I got it at 6.5 but, I know it's seven so I'm not worried about it.

One of my leds are out too, the one by the fuel level indicator. Are these some special kind of bulbs?

Also, is replacing them hard work? I'm afraid of fuing something up if I start taking the instrument cluster apart  Huh

The instrument cluster is easy.  Two screws on the trim, pull the trim off.  A couple of ten mil bolts (I think) and you can just pull the cluster straight out.  No wires or anything.  then to pull the light just twist the little black piece and you're done.

For the overlays,

www.procarparts.com
www.speedhut.com

I got mine from procarparts and they didn't have the Climate Controls included.  I know there are a few others out there too, I just don't have them accessable where I am now.  Hope this helps.

You can get HVAC overlays on ebay too... thats where I got mine. You can get the ones that light up like the indiglo gauges, or just plain overlays... I got the ones that glow, and they look really good.

It was taken at work with my crappy work camera.  It's a 2 megapixel so not high tech.
