headlight adjustment
« on: February 01, 2006, 09:58:23 PM »

well after my car was hit a couple weeks ago... it was repaired ($1050) out of her pocket. The guy that fixed the car did a great job.. the only thing i noticed was that he didnt re-align my headlight. When she hit it she pushed it back about an inch or so and pushed it down... its not even really noticeable which is why i didnt even know until 2 weeks later... my problem is that i want to put my headlight covers back on and they wont fit under the light now.. i  need to adjust the light so that it is a bit higher but i dont know how to do it.. i dont want to bring it back to the guy cuz who knows how long he'll want to keep it... can u guys help me out?

Thanks in advance!

What I gather is that the bottom of your headlight is tight against the bumper. Sounds structural, but not really bad enough to take it back in. What I would do is remove the headlight and put the cover on then put the headlight back in. Loosening the bolts that run across the top of the fender (under the edge of the hood) helps give you more clearance to get the headlight out, it is tight normally. Once your headlight is out you might be able to tweak where the light mounts to the chassis using a small hammer or screwdriver. After you get your headlight back in, might need to re-adjust the beam, so check your bubble gauge on top of the headlight and adjust if needed.

k i'll try it like that... the only thing that worries me is that if i put the cover on the headlight and slide it back in... will i be able to put it where it should be? or will it just go back into the position it is in now.. if it does that.. then it will scratch the paint on my bumper

You might try putting some spacers (washers) on the lower headlight bolts between the headlight and the plate where it mounts. This could "prop" the bottom of the light up enough to keep it off the bumper. Then just aim your beam down so you don't piss off other drivers, it might work  Undecided

And put a cloth on the bumper when you re-install, in case it doesn't.
