Bout to put the Bring outta my misery!!!
« on: January 30, 2006, 03:40:46 AM »

Now don't get me wrong I love my car to death but I'm am so frustrated. Everytime i just about get something fixed something else breaks. About four weeks ago my car wouldn't crank. It would turn over but it wouldn't crank. I tried a few times and it fired right up. I thought it needed a tune-up cuz It's got 130,000 mi. and I wasn't sure if it had ever had one. So I did plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. and everything was fine for probably about two weeks I went on a 400mi. trip and it was fine. Then about three days ago it did it again, and ever since then it has done it probably 5-6 times and it seems to have been getting progressively worse. I went to leave work tonight and i tried to crank it 12-13 times within a 5-10 minute period until it finally started. It's got a new fuel filter and the fuel pump is working. It has good gas in it and I run injector cleaner through on a regular basis. No CEL code. It has a remote starter on it and I'm curious if it is causing a problem. The other day I had it remote started and it cut off and then cranked itself back-up. I don't know anything about alarms or remote starts so I have no idea where to start. The alarm and remote start were on the car when I got it. I work at Advance Auto Parts so I have access to a lot of parts and help, but so far none of my co-workers have a clue. If anybody has any ideas i would really appreciate it cuz I really don't want to get rid of it. Thanx.

Does your remote start have an alarm setting on it?  Did it come with a starter relay?  Those can go bad and you're SOL.  That's why I never put them in!!  I'd check your injectors, and just because your pump is priming, that doesn't mean it's not underpowered.  Just a couple of things to check!!

Also the starter thing isn't likely if the starter's engaging everytime.

see thats just the thing i don't really know anything about the remote start. There is an aftermarket alarm on the car, but I don't know if the remote start is built into it or if it's a sepperat unit. But I really don't think it's the injectors or anything like that. It doesn't fire at all when I'm cranking it. it doesn't spit or sputter or anything like it's trying to start. It just turns over. Thanx though.

You could do an easy test for pressure.  There is a valve on the fuel rail, it looks like a tire valve.  Just push it in like you'd let out air, and if fuel shoots out you know the pump is priming enough.  Otherwise take the car into an electronics place (unless you feel confident to do it) and ask them to look for a starter relay.  You could just disconnect the brain for the remote start and for the alarm and see if that helps.

Yeah that was going to be my next move was to climb up under the dash and try to unplug it and see what happens.

I'm thinking it's the remote start. I "tried" to put one in my truck and after 4 hours of trying different wiring, I took it to my dealership, even they had trouble. When I hooked it up, the truck would crank just fine but would never think about firing. Just my thoughts randomly appearing in text form.

Do you think its possible that it might be the distributor or the ignition module?

That's V6 area, and I'm not that skilled with it.  Have you tried disconnecting the after market stuff?  Let me know how it goes.

If I had more than $100 to my name then I probably would but I'm broke. So I really don't have any options right now to even figure out whats wrong with it.

If I was rich I'd hook you up.  But I'm not.  I'm poor.  Is there another member near you that you can at least swap theirs with yours to see if that's the problem?
