Well thank you for correcting me, I can't remember where I heard they used the 41TE anyway...now I know, and that's why I came here, to learn about the Avenger.
And you found the right place! When I first bought my venge this was THE place for our cars. But then it went down for some drama crap, and Now we have it back. Hopefully it'll get back to where it was.

Mod List. Um WAY too many to fit on here. But the engine can handle about 800HP
I have a 2000 Dodge Avenger Sport with 65,000 miles on it and from my knowledge, the 2000's had a bit of a better transmission setup, and some of the tranny problems that were received in previous years from them were updated and fixed. Being that the car is built by Mitsubishi and the engine/transmission from my knowledge as well is all mitsubishi, making sure to do the transmission flush every 60,000 miles as well as changing the oil every 3-5k miles will keep the car on the road. Its just all luck of the draw tho in my opinion. You can beat the excrement outta a car and it can run great. You can baby one and it'll blow up after a month or two.. I bought my car in July of '05, and im coming up on having it for a year, and its still running extremely strong. The only thing I dislike is the hard downshifting when ur coming to a stop that it gives you every now and again. Its still winding down, and when u give the throttle as light push it wants to drag a bit like its an Manual LOL! However, it doesn't do it everytime.. I noticed in mine, checking the transmission fluid, its still red, it doesn't have any of that burnt clutch smell nor burnt break smell. It however does have a bit of a different smell that I haven't recognized before, but I've only owned two cars. Even my dad said it smelled a bit different, but it wasn't burned. I think the transmission if you keep the updated maint. on it, will continue to run fine.. If anyone else knows anything please let me know, this is just based on my knowledge of the car, i haven't had it to long!
The question on the overdrive setting to.. Supposedly the car adapts to the way you drive. So if someone else gets in your car and drives it, they'll tell a difference in performance because their driving habits are a bit different. I don't think we'd notice it at all, being the fact that we drive it everyday.. But theres some times where I do drive my car a bit different as well.. Sometimes goofy kids with their riced out honda's wanna race down the interestate.. I don't realy notice much of a difference other than it gets on it good.. If i must suggest something, try getting a nice cold air intake, runs so much better with one.. A few performance changes to your car can drop that 9.5s 60mph speed down to about 7.. Just my two cents.. Please let me know if I misread anything off of other sites and made any false statements. Any extra information would be appreciated as well! A lot of us have worries about our tranny's blowing up!
so far i am a second owner of a I4 atx at 98,000 miles and really no problems (no more than any other car out there)
but if you are looking for speed our cars are not that great, (slowest being the I4 auto). there are the recalls for the balljoints, make sure it is done.
and like said if you go with an auto get the tranny cooler, but i would recommend the I4.
and like any other car matinace will be the key to a long lasting car

There is no differnce in any of the tranny's they used same components thru all year 95/00 no differnce in rebuild kits for those years either
i've got a 96 I4 auto, 130K miles on her, and i've only had minor problems, had to replace a coilpack(you really notice when you lose 2 cylinders BUT IT STILL RAN!!!! couldnt go faster than 40 and i think it had about 5hp) and the door handle fell off(yours will too, if it hasn't happened already IT WILL). that was all within 2 weeks of getting it, and i thought to myself "man im in for a crapfest" but it hasn't given me any problems since then. thats been nearly 2 years since i've had to do any fixing.
oh and as far as i know mine is totally unmodded, i KNOW its the stock engine, tranny could be new, didn't look that closely, exhaust is stock, everything down to the air-intake (as far as i can tell) is off of the factory floor.
oh and the trunk doesnt open with the key, just the lever by my seat, whoopdiedo 4 extra steps to pop my trunk.
Wait wait wait.... If I take my car to my local dodge dealership I can have the ball joints replaced for free?
yes. unless they have been replaced before, then you don't need it. there was a defect in the original ball joint boots that caused premature failure (separation!!!)
Well I see this topic has been moved but I was quoted over the summer for new balls joints by goodyear... they were gonna charge me 700 bucks to replace them.... but i didnt do it.... So this is good news to hear of this recal
