Cheap Intake
« on: January 26, 2006, 04:12:38 AM »

Wow... It's been a hell of a long time since I posted here lol. A couple years maybe. Well I still have the same Avenger 5 speed and im in the process of restoring it.

OK to the point...

I'm totally surprised at how cheap some of the parts for our cars go for on eBay. I was thinking about just picking up a really cheap cold air intake on eBay just for something to play around with. You can get them extremely cheap and I figure you can't really go wrong with something that cheap. What do you guys think? Is it worth blowing $20-25 on?

Thanks. I'll prob order one in the next couple of days!

Do they mount good or will I have to rig up some way to keep it from fallin off or anything, and will I still be able to drive in the rain or will I have to be more careful?

Fitment is dependent on the type of CAI you get.  The rain is only an issue when it downpours, but beware of puddles.  Puddles very bad.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

Maybe I'll just go with the regular instead of the CAI because I'd rather be safe than sorry. Would a heat shield with a regular intake be any good and would it still have that sucking noise?

I had a Sentra with some engine work done to it, and a CAI.  I was 18 (I think) and I drove through a bad puddle.  It was making some wierd noises.  I got it home, but it didn't want to start then next day.  I drained all the oil (AND WATER!!!) and refilled it with some synthetic QuakerState.  Started up and ran fine!  Then I sold it.

go with a shorty intake and water should not be much of an issue. I have problems with the carwash and puddles, long intake here. I now just drive it when the weathers nice, it's getting spoiled.

Well, I got my intake today from ProCarParts.com. It was a regular intake, not a CAI, with a heat shield air filter for a non-turbo eclipse. It took a while to make it fit for some reason.  It's almost like they forgot that there was a battery there lol.

The car runs healthier and is definitely louder. For the $30 for the intake (plus shipping) it wasnt that bad of a deal if you dont mind it not fitting the best.
