another no start issue... 99 2.5 venge
« on: September 26, 2008, 12:08:29 AM »

ill try to pump as much info as i can.
i have a 99 avenger with a 2.5 and 176,XXX miles. A few months ago i started to notice a sputter, or hesitation in the car.. it got to the point that the car would stall out, and occasionally i would not start. so i replaced the IAC, TPS, EGR Intake temp sensor... that fixed it for about 2 weeks. then it started to act up again.. finnaly threw a code. Missfire cyl#5, so i replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and battery. Fixed the issue.. Untill i go to drive the car a few weeks ago and it will not start at all. I listend for fuel.. got it... so i held the go fast pedal to the floor while cranking and it does not fire UNTILL>>> i take the key off of "start" and put it in "run" then it will sputter and fart but will not pick up rpms. eventually it will start up and act like nothing is wrong. but the other day no matter what i do it will not start alls it will do is crank till the battery is dead. I think it may be coil related... but i dont know what size i need, aparently there are 2 diffrent ones.
and before its sudgested what is an "ASD" relay... what does it stand for?

ASD stands for Auto Shut Down.  It's possible, but if it was shot your fuel pump wouldn't prime.  Your car has 176000 miles, have you ever changed your timing belt?

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

And why would the fuel pump not prime if the ASD relay was bad?

The fuel pump has it's own relay which is powered off the ignition switch and controlled by the computer.

Going off experience.  When my fuel pump wasn't priming unless I gave it direct voltage, I replaced the ASD and had no more problems.  This is for the I4 though.

sorry it took so long to to reply, was doing some checks. timing belt needs replacement but that is not the issue. ive narrowed it down to the coil. i have a really weak spark. As for the asd, even if the fuel pump has its own relay it has to go thru the asd's checks.
