Silver 98 ES
« on: September 20, 2008, 11:57:50 PM »

Ok daughter turning 15 needs a car, and that means I need to get rid of one of the other ones. Unfortunately, my Avenger is the sacrificial lamb and needs to go. She is a silver 1998 ES that has been my daily driver for several years now without any mechanical issues during that time, still gets 30+ mpg on the highway. Everything mechanical and electrical works, A/C blows cold, sun roof opens and closes without leaks, leather is in pretty good shape for a 10 year old car, there is one cig burn on the passenger seat from the previous owner, can be seen as a white spot in the interior picture. I have regularly changed the oil myself; I did the 100,000 mile service myself per the directions found in these forums that included timing belt, tensioner rollers, and water pump replacements and transmission service. The car is pretty much stock with a few mods found on these forums like the fog lamp mod, it has chrome Chrysler rims that were added by the previous owner. The biggest flaw this car has is that it does have a salvage title; it appears that it slid off the road or went into a ditch with the right front wheel with a previous owner. When we bought it, it seemed to drive fine but when I did some research on the VIN I found that it had not had the ball joint recall done so I took it to the local dealer, when they replaced the ball joints they ran into some trouble trying to get the front end re-aligned and subsequently found some bent steering parts and missing bolts. I then took the vehicle to a local reputable frame shop and put a thousand dollars into straightening/replacing and fixing the right front wheel. The car drives straight and true with no pulling or drifting when braking or cruising, the tires wear even and there are no abnormal noises. I do not have the remote door openers but they can be bought on eBay for about $30.00 the last time I checked, just never had a need for them myself. I would not be afraid to drive this car anywhere but of course it is a used car and is sold as-is. We are in middle Tennessee halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga and would be willing to meet anyone who is seriously interested in buying this vehicle in either one of those cities. On Autotrader.com there are 20 1997-1999 Avengers listed within 300 miles of us the average asking price of those 20 vehicles is $4751.35. I am going to post here for at least a week before listing it there, I am going to post there for $4,500.00 but will sell to anyone on this list for $4000.00 because I have gained a lot of valuable information from you guys over the last several years and I know that if anyone from here buys the car they will treat it well. Please either PM me or send an email to my personal email at grodrianst@aol.com I will try to attach pictures to this message but I'm not entirely sure that I know how to do that so if they don't make it drop me a note and I'll send them to you, or if you want additional pictures let me know. Thank you

Lol. Why not let her have this one? It has an excellent crash safety rating and you only have 110k on it. Trust me, as far as the safety rating goes, i know first hand. My 99 ES was also a salvage title and it was my DD for almost 2 years [almost means until it was put down by a 2002 Lincoln Continental]. Unless you're trying to get her a smaller car... lol.

LOL, well that was my intention but apparently since it has been my car it has been "tainted" by a parental stain, "I don't like it, it's to old", etc...blah, blah, blah. We do have the ability to get her something in a 2003-2005 range that she likes, she actually wants a bigger 4 door vehicle. So that is what we're going to do, unfortunately I have to sacrifice the Venge to make it happen. Thanks for the thought though.  Grin

I don't think it's because it's 'tainted'. She probably wants something that she can take her friends riding around in [4 door]. I've never known a teen to want a 4 door vehicle for any reason other than that. Today, they're so enamored by all the superstars that drive around the big escalades and expeditions that they don't realize 'Superstars make money which means they don't have to worry about costs of said behemoth.' Don't get her anything top heavy. lol. From the sound of it, she's going through the typical teenager in high school phase. I saw it all the time from 2000-2003. I just hate to see a Venge have to be sacrificed because of that mentality. lol.
