A couple months ago I did a head gasket job on a 95 Avenger 2.0 DOHC engine. Everything was fine and it had perfect 165PSI on all 4 cylinders.
A couple days ago I noticed some kind of smoke coming out of the exhaust, its hard to tell whether its oil, coolant or just steam.
So I did a compression test again and on the 1st and 4th cylinder the compression was 20 PSI lower then the 2 in the centre.
So will re-torquing the head bolts fix this? Or will it make it worse?
I used a MLS head gasket and I re-used the old bolts.

Re-use of the old bolts is probably the problem. Always use new bolts. It's cheap insurance.

I reused the old bolts because I didn't want to remove both the camshafts and then have to set the timing again.

you cannot reuse the head bolts They are torque to yield so when you torque them the first time they stretch thus making them unusable a second time because they will be longer.

I assume the head is probably warped as well being you never actually completely removed the head?

The head was removed to change the head gasket.

did you have the head checked by any means other than just looking at it? all it takes is a little warpage and it's off to the machine shop or the parts store for a new one

How did you correctly retorque the bolts without having the camshaft removed? I couldn't even get a socket on mine because the cams were in the way.

No I didn't check it for warpage.
I torqued the bolts to what was listed in the Haynes manual. I managed to get a socket in there without taking away the cams.

First mistake was buying that fire starter. Pick up a Chilton.

titan-racing.com Medialocker.org Mod List. Um WAY too many to fit on here. But the engine can handle about 800HP

Haynes and Chilton both suck.
Factory repair manuals FTW!

So is there any possible easy way to fix this or do I have to take everything apart again?
Is it possible to change the bolts without removing half the engine pretty much?
