Limp mode + error codes
« on: August 08, 2008, 03:00:54 AM »

Thanks in advance to anybody who can provide some insight...

2000 Dodge Avenger
2.5L V6

The car was running fine with no warning signs of any kind. It suddenly went into limp mode and the spedometer stopped working simultaneously. Shortly after, the check engine light came on so I took it to the auto parts store to for diagnosis and here were the resulting codes:

P0731
Gear 1 Ratio Incorrect

P0700
Trans Control Sys Malfunction

I've read on other forums that this could be cause by a speed sensor. Anybody had any similar codes and/or symptoms? If so, what was the result?

well i have never had any problem like this but i do know that the speed sensors can wear out, surprisingly enough, and could be the problem, they only cost like 16 bucks a piece or so i would try that before you get into something super expensive but i would check the fluid before you do anything make sure its full and clean.

The fluid level and clarity look good. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will try the sensors first.

I tried contacting a couple of parts stores and both told me that there is no such part available. Any suggestions on where to find this sensor? Maybe at a dodge dealership?
