Is my car overheating?
« on: July 31, 2008, 03:09:43 PM »

Basically whenever in rush hour traffic the needle typically goes up to this point and then goes back in the middle. This only happens when idling and never when driving.

Does this mean it overheats or is it acceptable?

It's overheating probably do to lack of coolant.  When you're driving the cool air runs through your radiator and engine.  The radiator cools the little coolant you have to help keep the engine and a manageable temperature, but when you stop the little fan isn't doing enough.  You probably have a small leak somewhere.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

I am sure it doesn't leak the coolant because I can't top it up anymore, it overfills.

Have you tried filling it when the car is running?

Hmmm.  What's up with your heater core?  Do you have any leaking inside your car?  Does your temp go down when you turn the heat on in your car?

Bad heater cores suck to change so that's probably it.  And it's the last thing I can think of.

Someone at work suggested putting the heater on full blast and see if it brings the temperature down, unfortuntely everything stayed the same.

Do you think it can be the thermostat? Should I just take it out and see if it solves the problem?

Yeah, if you take it out and it STILL registers the same temp, try replacing your Coolant Temp Sensor.

So with your avengers the temp needle never goes past the middle point? Even at red lights? Or traffic jams?
