i just got dumped by my insurance company because they requested photos of my car which my wife took and emailed to them-she did her best to hide any mods i have made but they asked for a photo with the trunk open.they got back to me and said they would love to insure our other cars but not the avenger because in the picture they saw my amps.so now i am pissed and said well what else is there that you would not insure-they said racing mufflers, cold air intakes, body modifications and anything that was NOT INSTALLED IN THE FACTORY!!!!!!. Than they had the nerve to say that if we choose not to do business with them than there will be a cancellation fee for the other vehicles.
FRIGGING A-HOLES!!!!!!
but my wife found another company that does not care about mods or stereo work so i will soon be insured with them!
Ever heard of the BBB [Better Business Bureau]? If you're in the states, what they did is unethical. In Georgia, if your car is registered and the insurance is cancelled, you're license gets suspended 2 seconds later if you don't have another policy on the car. If an insurance company did that without telling you about the 'restrictions' upfront before you get the policy, they would have a few lawsuits and have their business license for Ga suspended until they developed more ethical business practices. But if you're in the states, check with the BBB if they give you trouble.
it was a Primmum insurance they are based in Mississauga. They know that they can't cancel my insurance without warning so they are giving me 17 days of coverage -till i can find another company. My wife talked to belaire insurance and they said that my premiums will be a little higher if i modify the car--but they will insure me.
I use Brant Mutual. They are pretty sweet. When My car got broken into. They actually gave me money toward my soundsystem and my insurance didnt go up.
I talked to my insurance guy last month about getting my coverage increased since I've just spent so much turning this old gem back into a decent looking (mostly) reliable daily driver, (the last thing I want is to get a mere $2000 or so for it if something out of my control happens) and he recommended getting it independently appraised and going to the insurance company with that. I've been with Gore Mutual in Cambridge (not sure how far beyond this area they cover) for years and have been quite happy with them. One backing into me, two attempted break-ins, one backwards jersey barrier slide at 100 km/h (black ice + bald tires = bad day), and one attempted theft (both doors and the steering column mangled) and my rates have never really gone up... w00t!
