Replaced EGR still runs like a starting a lawn tractor.....
« on: June 24, 2008, 09:31:07 PM »

1996 V6. Has a new distributor as of 3 years ago. Which I suppose doesn't mean that much. Did a full tune on it about a month ago. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Fixed the big hesitation. Ran fine for a day and then started to hesitate at idle and at very low speeds. Drove fine at highway and quasi highway speeds. Started it the other day and drove about 100 yards when I stopped and it quit. Tried to start it but it won't run unless I mashed the gas and even then it was a lawn tractor. Replaced the EGR.... still you have to mash the gas...  I've read everything I could find on the subject but am still having issues with it. I just replaced the EGR valve and cleaned the intake. Still barely starts when the gas is massed and runs like a lawn tractor. The car has 210,000 miles on it. I guess I am stumped as to what to check next. I live in the mountains and have been running 85 octane for the last year. I don't know if it's worth fixing. Any thoughts?

run 87 octane from now on. Sounds like you need a new fuel pump. get on it man.

also lucas fuel system cleaner wouldnt hurt, injectors may already be damaged so you may need some of those too, good luck.

Thanks guys... Going to get on it today. If all else fails I do know of a few mountains around here to push it down.

Thanks again.

Time consuming. just make sure you're in a WELL ventilated area. You'll have to remove the back seat. you should be able to find a write up in the HowTo section.
