Header question
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:45:08 AM »

Hello all,

Double checking--do these Eclipse headers bolt right up to our 420A motor as well.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=380030796251&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=025

And has anyone had experience with this type of header?  A one year warranty doesn't seem like much for a stainless steel part.  Thanks!

Though some people like SS parts, after a while with the contracting and expansion, from what I've heard they tend to crack which may explain the 1 yr warranty. I could be corrected. I also am not sure if it'll fit possibly due to clearance issues, but I haven't heard good things about 4-1 headers off ebay. someone else would do this, so let me: just think about it it this way when you compare the prices on ebay, you get what you pay for:

i bought a 3" exhaust through them. it said that tubing was 100% ss....which was true, but the flanges, muffler, and res were not. i tested it with a magnet...magnets dont stick to ss... or alloy.

i would put money on the collector and flanges are chromed steel...

so like jusbringit was saying, i would think the difference in metal types might make welds crack...especially the high temp of the header

just my $.002

Thanks guys.  I have an exhaust leak on the engine side of the cat. and I am just trying to keep it road worthy.  When I saw the price, I almost jumped at it.  The pacesetters are not that much more in the grand scheme.  I am going to see if my long time exhaust man can fix it up first.  Thanks again!

You get what you pay for first of all.

Second, you will not see much gains from a header of that style.

You can get good gains by porting the stock exhaust manifold or get a straight tube 4-1 header (good luck, I don't know of anyone that makes one, perhaps get one custom made)

A long tube header will give you the most gains but only a set or 2 exists to my knowledge.

Either fix what you have or spend the extra on a coated header. Stay away from stainless steel. DC Sports, OBX, Greddy, Pacesetter, etc... are all decent headers.

This is a set of the "eBay Special" after only 1.5 years. They were repairable, but only because my stepdad is an experienced welder. lol
