just wanted to share my experience replacing the infamous upper ball joint. I used McQuay-Norris ball joints from Kragen for $36 and rented the ball joint press from AutoZone. Pretty simple install with the tool.
One tip though, luckly I had 1 1/4 (32mm) socket for my axel nut and this came in really handy installing the snap-ring. Just use the same ball joint press to install the snap-ring.
lol. the most infamous is the lower. I had to replace my upper also, and i got it at O'Reilly's [Mooooooog] for $34.99. no shipping required. just had to wait a day for it to be ordered.
I just replaced the upper ball joint on the front. Didn't cost that much either [mechanic wise]. I spent noticebly less than $100 on parts and labor. so i was pleased.
