My engine update. No pictures I have no patience.
« on: May 12, 2008, 02:36:51 AM »

Got my engine back, put it in, in about an hour of solid work. (Getting faster!)

I turn the key and it start almost right away, I"m feeling good. No weird sounds, look under the car no leaking for the first bit. Go in the interior everything is reading properly. Then I look at the engine in all it's glory, and there is oil all over the valve cover. What The Hell. They apparently didn't put something in the first cylinder properly, because oil is coming out through the spark plug chamber. I pulled the valve cover off to make sure it wasn't the gasket between the valve cover and spark plug chamber. It's coming from inside the freaking block.

So just a recap

1st trip to Baril - Messed up timing (Had someone else fix)
2nd trip to Baril - They forgot to put in TWO gaskets so my oil leaked everywhere
3rd trip to Baril - The messed up the timing when they put the two gaskets in and broke a valve off inside my engine
Future 4th trip to Baril - Apparently someone forgot to put in piston rings or something similar

Maybe it's FOURTH time is a charm.

when it rains it pours crap.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

if they forgot the piston rings you need to find you some new engine guys. seriously piston rings is like step 2 of reassembly. step 1 is making sure you have your piston rings.

This is what you do [after they fix this problem of course]: Take a LONG steel cable, loop it around everyone that works there's driveshaft/cv joint/rear axle [whichever one is available or more costly] and make sure they have enough slack to replicate that scene from American Grafitti.

Then never go there again.

I'm kind of stuck as far as places to go for engine rebuilding.  Especially one that stands behind their work.  Every time they screw up they take responsibility and fix it.  This place is known for making GREAT engines which is why I went there.  The RB powered RX-7 I helped with had his motor there, and it was perfect.  I know half a dozen guys that have their eights done there.  No one has had a complaint.  Until me.  Then another friend of mine with a 18b went there and had all kinds of issues too.  Maybe it's just four cylinders.  I don't know.

But Gee Whizz they sure are nice people  Angry

DISCRIMINATION!!! PREJUDICE!!! ummm.... I guess they think that since we have half the cylinders, that we only deserve half the attention. therefore, when they mess up, and you bring it back in, you get the other half of the attention they should have given you to begin with.

If their ability to build a four cylinder motor was half as good as their customer service I would have no complaints!!  Unfortunately that is NOT the case.

you would think that with it being half the cylinders they are used to, you'd get a 200% effort
