« on: January 18, 2006, 08:26:05 PM »

ok,
i want to do SOMETHING with my interior! i'm going to be adding speakers, and stuff like that...
but i'd like to know more about painting interior pieces...
tell me what you guys have done to paint your interior stuff...
like the dash, door panels, center console, rear quarters...
tell me if you sanded down, didn't sand down, used primer, what kind of paint, etc...

You can paint the center console  Grin It's not too bad assuming you have LOTS of time and paitence. There's a how-to...either here or on *cough, that other site *cough. But basically it goes like this:
 1. pop off the center console pieces with a flat head screwdriver (Don't worry about hearing poping sounds as you pry, that's just the clips letting go)
 2. Sand until you get blisters and breathe in so much plastic dust you get a sore throat. First with 150 grit or so then again with wet sand paper; 1000grit. It should be nice and smooth by this point.
 3. 2-3 coats of primer. VERY IMPORTANT!
 4. Finally coat with paint. Let dry. Clear coat if desired (I didn't. 2 years no probs yet)
 5. Reassemble your pieces.

If you want tomorrow I can take some pics of my interior and try to figure out how to post them here if you want to see how it could turn out for ya'.

P.S. I just used Rust-Oleum for the paint. You could also add neons or gauges too. If you've got the money and ambition you could do custom leather seats too.

I just painted my back speaker grills with Krylon and they came out  pretty good I'll post a pic when I get a chance. As far as primers you really dont need nuthing too special. You can grab a can at any ol' check autozone, walmart etc. I know that candy paint you're talkin about. I've used it before and its pretty good stuff but I wouldnt recommend it for car interiors. You wouldnt get the effect as much like if it were on the outside of the car. To avoid the drip drops just spray a thin coat on and let it dry then spray another thin coat on and just repeat til' its all even. Just take your time

Here are some pics. Hope this works. First time using my new digi cam, so the pics don't quite do it justice. It's a lot glossier than these make it look. Next time I won't try taking pics in a dark garage!  Cheesy

Also first time on photobucket: http://photobucket.com/albums/e330/dvenge/Interior/

now your pieces look good! another problem i have is choosing a color...
my car is 2 different colors...gold body, with silver hood, front bumper, and rear bumper...
it doesn't really look that bad, but i got jipped by some foreigners...
but anywayz, i was thinking GREEN w/ flakes because my interior is tan leather, w/ a black dash n stuff...
but, i've got blue lights in my trunk, and i've got the LED spot light things sitting behind my steering wheel,
because my dash still isn't lighting up...it works ok, i'm gonna get some more and put em on a switch...

but lemme get this straight...
-get any kinda primer
   do several coats
-then do several thin coats of the paint, and the same with the gloss

correct?

and the kandy paint i was talking about in wal-mart...i meant 'kameleon'...the one that goes from green to blue to purple...
but i dunno, i can't decide!!!

Can you post a pic of your interior? I can imagine it and it sounds like it would look good, but a pic always helps. And yeah. Sand then to all of the above and you should be good to go! If you do it, let us know how it goes  Wink

well...that was the plan...at first...
but i got jipped on this car...long story short, i fell for a bullshit lie after being without a car for 4 months...
i got it on impulse, and turns out, it wuz a salvage title...
i recently got an estimate on the body damage...came out to around $2700...
all this time i thought it wuz just this >>>

the bar that hols the headlights in place, is fucked up on the passenger side, causing the headlight to be
pushed back and tilted upwards a bit...
not to mention that one'z chrome housing and the other's black...
but i didn't know that until i had the headlights buffed...
but there's fender damage, rear bumper assembly stuff, etc, etc...
it's a lot of excrement...i paid $3400, since the damage is close to that, i say screw it...
i'll just work on my interior and sound system...
add lights, more speakers, etc...ya know

IMO it'd be easier to pick a interior color scheme (lights paint etc) depending on your exterior color. Believe it or not there is hope for the exterior of your car. If it were me, and the outside was as jacked up as you say it is, i'd just rip all the stock pieces off and find a nice kit to slap on. You can probably find a fender off a junkyard venge and a matching headlight too or check ebay. even the aftermarket ones are running pretty cheap. A full body kit would run you about 600 bucks if not less, take it and get it intstalled and painted and BAM there you go. Dont know what your budget looks like but it can be done all in due time. Your interior is already in good shape so I wouldnt concentrate on that too much other than keeping it that way.  But thats just me Grin whatever u decide to do we'll help you out.

finding a headlight and stuff isn't the problem...the bar and inside the fender are so bad, that i can't even get the passenger headlight out! these pix will give u guys a better understanding the bullshit i'm dealing wit...

and gettin a kit would only make it even more noticeable in my opinion, u know?

Woah crap! Shocked You wern't kidding about that! You could have the bumper replaced so that you can get the correct headlights and the body panels will be sitting plumb again. Then it'd be ready for paint and you'd never know by looking that there was a problem
