This is mostly for Shiano...and anyother people that like the racing sims, these games are almost my religion.
I have both the 360 and PS3.
recently I picked up GT5 Prologue, I am a huge fan of racing sims and GT was always my favorite game until I decided PS3 was to expensive( then they got a nice price drop so I got one) and started focusing on Forza/360.
Anyways, so after playing Forza, I realized that GT is lacking in a LOT of areas, and I was hoping GT5 Prologue would bring it up to par. So here goes, my informal game review:
Its REALLY pretty, I mean these cars look like you are watching a live race feed or something on tv. Then there is the "in car" view with a fully and unique interior for every car you have, this view is really nice you dont realize how much any car game should have this until you see it, it really helps you feel the car through turns and such, though in this view the rear view mirror is useless at least in the GTI(the only car I could really afford at the start).
Now on to the bad parts, as pretty as it is a lot of stuff is useless on a standard deff tv (guages in the in car view etc) but thats pretty minimal. And it still controls sloppy compared to forza, collisions still bounce you off of cars and walls like a pinball game, there is NO customization, and the cars feel a little spazy (not only driving one but also the AI) to the point that the GTI oversteers like a 500 hp RWD on skinnies. Then theres controls, they still use the old system, and that means the new PS3 triggers (L2 and R2) are gears while throttle and brakes are X and Square buttons, what that kinda equates to is either on or off gas or brakes in a turn, no real throttle modulation unless you are really good at using your thumb to apply different pressure to two different buttons at once(of course all of this is completly null and void if you opt to buy the expensive steering wheels, forza has the gears on the buttons and gas and brakes on the triggers making it possible to stay on the gas while dialing in some brakes through a turn).
All in all its not terrible, but after playing Forza, despite the sand traps slowing you down more than they should, the game just doesnt really stack up in game play, now in visuals and even in sound it tears Forza apart, this game really is pretty. Will I buy the whole game when it comes out? As much as I think its probably going to dissapoint, yes I just love these types of games and it does have cars that Forza doesn't. Do I hope they work on the collisions and the driving characteristics? YES.
Anyways there ya go, just my HONEST opinion of the game and how it stacks up to competition. Take it for what you will.
