Security Systems and Punishment...
« on: April 15, 2008, 07:01:32 PM »

Here's my situation.

My '98 Sebring JX was recently stolen, left alongside the street, towed and then returned to me.  OK, sure, it was trashed on the interior (use whatever terminology you like for the ____ who stole it) and the Ignition Cylinder and switch were destroyed, but beyond that, nothing much was damaged.  There are a couple of "soft" dents in the driver's door, and the perpetrators apparently didn't attack the engine too hard.  They put about 60 miles on it before it ran out of gas, which was a dirty trick on my account...I'd replaced the fuel pump a year before and never bothered to redo the float, so the fuel lamp comes on and about 20 seconds later...she's out.  They also stole the stereo (of course) which wasn't so bad, since I was going to replace it this year anyway.

What I'd like to know is, has anyone heard of more 'aggressive' security measures for your car.  Mine had the basics, locks (obviously...I live in downtown Milwaukee) and a Marksman Alarm system.  I had a discussion with a police officer in town here who let me know that offense-style security measures are illegal, UNLESS you put an apparent notice on the car, i.e. a sign in the windows.  Something to the effect of, "Try to steal this car and you may be left with a foot up your....".

I know that when I visited South Africa briefly, they have very aggressive systems to keep carjacking from occurring.  Now, other than the idea of lighting flamethrowers under the rocker panels, has anyone investigated or heard of anything out there?

Thanks,
~Joe

you live about 10min away from me lol.  your best bet is to install a kill switch, so unless it is flipped the car won't even start.  get a viper alarm or something like that with the LCD remote that alerts you when the alarm goes off, instead of just making noise and you having no idea unless you hear it.  if your that worried pull the plug wires off even.

My advice, mount a .50cal automated turret gun to the roof!!! no one will steal your car then.

That trunk monkey is actually from a Dealership here in Beaverton if I remember right.  I love those commercials.
