i should have known that calling on you would reflect my inexperience with electronics. >.< DOH! lol i have no idea what to set a volt meter on to find that out. Nor do i know how to jump the solenoid.[someone else suggested that and i'm afraid i'll fry sometthing, so until i learn properly, my jumping days will remain 0.
New update: I neglected to mention [because of how pissed i was, i neglected to pay attention] that when i turn the key, i get that initial single click from the engine, but nothing else.
Could it be a slave or master cylinder?
Without knowing how to find those numbers for you BV, i'm clueless.
OK electronics 101 If you have a Volt Ohm Meter you need to set it to OHMS and then put one lead on each end of the cable , then get the reading off the meter , it should be very near "0" a higher resistane could be the trouble ...I've seen internal corrosion on both the cables and the white fusible links cause similar troubles... Have you checked the small wires feeding the solenoid for 12volts when attempting to crank ??
yay. work ran late so i ran out of time. I took it by the shop and dropped it off. told him what the symptoms were and the first thing he checked was the clucth safety switch. Sure enough, there was a small part that had been broke off due to old age and wear. it's a little nub that eventually wears off anyways so he fixed it with a metal replacement.
15 starts + the 20 starts he did at the shop later, i'm still driving around town. He told me that if that didn't fix it, bring it back and he'd apply what i already paid toward my next visit.
I'm still keeping the starter though. lol.
THANK YOU everyone who tossed in ideas and help me to try and troubleshoot this.
What have I learned: I can change my starter [competance-wise] Ants crawling on the pavement do not make good conversationalists, nor do they care when you cuss at them for biting you. I know almost nothing at all about a volt meter. I still have much to learn [which i knew from the start lol]
BV, speaking of volt meters, is there an online free source that is good for someone who wants to become an electrician as far as teaching you the basics and maybe basics + 1?
he only charged me $50 and told me that at any point if it starts doing it again [within reasonable timeframe of course] he'll take a look at it and apply the 50 to the invoice. He always gives me an itemized receipt too, so i'm not worried about him pulling something.
huh.....odd that the jump pack would help.....maybe when you had to get out and get the jump pack you got mad at it and hit the clutch harder when you got in?......i like B.S.ing good answers.....lol
well glad its workin for ya so far. sorry if it craps out again.
autozone sucks. lol. I was calling around trying to locate a part for a customer of mine who owned a Chevelle when i worked at Advance and the 'Autozoner' on the phone asked me if a Chevrolet Chevelle was a car or truck........
One of the greatest musclecars in US history. Is it a car or a truck? sheesh.
Anyhow, i digress. I did have it bench tested before i replaced the starter, and yeah in a sense, a starter is a starter BUT you have to make sure you have the RIGHT starter. lol. when you roll it forward, is it in neutral or D?
if i remember right it was in Drive or reverse... I would put it in reverse to roll it down the driveway, sometimes it wouldnt work and i would be halfway in the driveway and road. I would leave it, and get in the durango and hope someone "T"- bones it when i was at work...lol.
