I wouldn't advise towing either.  Especially if you have an auto transmission!

as he was told on asec. depending on what he's towing, a trailer with some minor things on it as the same as having 4 full size adults in the car. whats wrong with towing? it will work just fine, but be smart about it. follow the answers on asec people actually tried to help you over there instead of just saying no.

pulling the wieght puts more strain on the transmission that the wieght sitting on it. PLUS, if you're pulling a trailer that wieghs that of 4 full sized adults, then you have 2 full sized adults in the car that might just be too much.

my suggestion is, if its a one-time haul needed, rent a uhaul truck. if this is a repetitive trailoring need buy a 500$ S-10 type truck(dakota, ranger) and trust me you can get them that cheap and they will last you for a while, won't win any car shows, but it'll get the job done. either way it will be cheaper than potentially replacing your transmission. remember these transmissions go out hauling one adult passenger around.

and trailering with manuals is harder on your engine. just look at any truck owner's manual, the manual trans ussually is rated for about 500-1500lbs less than the auto. my girlfriend's car(92 plymouth sundance), is rated at 1500 with the auto and the manual is rated at 1000. if she had the turbo engine it would be 1000 for auto, DON'T for manual.
