« on: March 14, 2008, 06:16:46 PM »

Well I got a call to look at my Mom's car last night. Its a 95 Avenger with the 2.5L V6. Thing is smoking like CRAZY!!!!  Now this car is like new, with less then 50K on it, and it has been running fine up till the other day. Now its burning oil like crazy!. Anything common on these?Huh   Thanks for any help.

Is the smoke blue, black, or white?  This is VERY important.

close, blue=oil, white=water(steam), black=unburnt fuel

if its coming out of the tailpipe and its blue, could be headgasket or piston rings, white its pretty much gonna be head gasket, black= any number of things that makes the fuel not burn effeciently( bad coil pack, bad sensors, injectors, and about 23.5 other options.)

if its coming out from under the hood, let us know where under the hood and we can pin down the problem pretty easy.

Or because of burning anti-freeze.

Normally just when it's cold out out warming up.

leaking coolant fluid inside the pistons
once the engine get warmer metal expansion seal the leak

you could try adding some radiator leak sealeant but not a full bottle
go gradually

Thanks Alain.. I need to get my fluid changed too.. I'm actually not sure if it's been changed since I got it. My previous auto shop was very shady.. 3.0 is going in in a few weeks so would that be a prime time to change teh fluid? And would I still need to do the sealant for it? Mythbusters used an egg... Cheesy

if you change the engine in a few weeks just make sure in the meantime that you coolant system is full

and when you will drop the 3.0 put some fresh coolant in the radiator

Thats nothing, when i first got my talon on the road after doing a head swap the turbo went out. The turbine wheel literally snapped off. My car smoked worse then a train. People would swerve out of the way.
