Engine with Downs Syndrome
« on: February 20, 2008, 11:00:45 AM »

ok, so maybe that was a little overboard. But, it's pissing me off right now. lol

I'll be driving or idling, and the engine will 'hiccup'.

If you've ever had an automatic that slam shifted into the next gear on medium to hard acceleration because of a bad motor/tranny mount, imagine that feeling when you're at idle or actually driving [25 or 75mph, it don't matter]. Basically, the RPM's DROP and it's like the car 'dies' for a split second. When it's at idle, the RPM's will drop to 500 or lower and then shoot up to 2100 and settle back down to 900-1000 [yes i know that's a high idle].

The CEL light IS on
No I haven't been able to check it yet
Everytime I let the car idle for 5 minutes or so, the CEL comes on and says "Bank 2 O2 Sensor, no activity". 99% of the time [this being the 1%] the CEL turns off after i've been driving for an hour.

What I've done so far:
Cleaned the TB
Bottle of Lucas

Oh, and it's not a rapid fire succession type hiccup either. On my 25 mile trip home, it did it 5 times on me last night. It doesn't really matter on the distance, just as long as it's running. It would do it that many times at idle if I let it idle long enough.

I'm on a poor mans budget so I can't exactly afford to swap everything out.

Ideas?

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

The first step to diagnosis is to fix all the immediate problems that you know are wrong.
Thus eliminating them from the equation.
Change your bloody 02 sensor.

lol. I haven't worked for the Auto Store in about a year. Remember? JBI, put down the ganja. it's bad for your memory.

Update on info: I got some plug wires tonight so i'm going to try those. When i'm accelerating or at idle, it's ALOT more noticeable than when I'm just cruising. Above 2800 rpm it's not as bad.

Plus, some idiot broke the CEL checker at Advance and Autozone's is ..... well, it's Autozone.

Updated Update: Well, it isn't the wires. So i'll be returning them. *sigh*

I cringe every time it stumbles.

Fuel Filter might be next. But it doesn't make sense for it to be the filter. *sigh*

check your EGR...seriously....it can cause o2 sensor problems, and it can cause stumbling and crap like that. changing the o2 wouldn't hurt prolly either.

Yeah. Had the code checked and of course it gave the same P0134 that it's been giving alot and a new one that i kinda expected, P0171.

Circuit No Activity (Bank 1, Sensor 1 [upstream]), and System Too Lean.
