4g63t w/ 5spd swap
« on: February 19, 2008, 11:41:18 PM »

I have a 2.5 sebring and am wanting more power. I have a wrecked gs-t that the insurance company totaled out and i was wandering if the motor and tranny would fit in the car. I have all the parts from the gs-t motor, tranny, turbo, all wiring harness and ecu.

It has and can be done.

you will need the following

time
money

you will need to redesign the engine bay

he honestly doesnt need that much money, he already has a donor car, if he can weld/has a friend that can weld and access to a welder it will barely cost him anything as far as the swap itself goes.

now obviously he will have to get a better fuel system and all that. there are plenty of write-up's on doing this swap if people would just search...

ive already got the fuel pump up to a walboro, and i have been looking for info but cant find much out there. If i cant get more info i have a friend that works at a local salvage yard that got a hold of a lancer engine and tranny. If i have to i will put the turbo of my motor on it but i want to try to make this work first

the 4g63 swap is VERY doable. if you have the time to do it, and access to the proper tools.

Here's all the fab stuff for AWD.

-Mounts for the driveshaft
-Driveshaft needs to be lengthened
-Make a driver side motormount Or drill the spot welds out of the one from the donor car and trim it to fit, i liked doing this because it looks stock and the mount is pretty much exactly where it needs to be)
-Make a mount so the front crossmember can connect to the core support
-You need to take measurements so your mounts are in the right spot
-Make the tranny mount.
-The driver side frame rail needs to be cut and rewelded properly so it clears the waterpump pulley on the motor.
-If you want AC, Jasonlee said you can dent the frame rail so it clears. Then you don't need to cut it.
-If going with 5 speed the firewall need to be cut for the slave cylinder. from inside the car the firewall is stamped so you can see exactly where its supposed to go

I think if your not going with awd, and/or rebuilding the 4g, it's not worth the time and effort.

But if you just want to swap it in to be different, I say go for it.

You would need an awd tranny and transfer case.

And all the rear end parts from a GSX. Axles, hubs, etc....
