rear brake conversion
« on: February 19, 2008, 09:51:04 PM »

Hi. I would like to know if it is possible to convert the rear drum brakes to disc brakes. If so, what is needed,(i would be putting aftermakert parts), what kind of work is involved ect. Would the handbrake still work? Is there anything important I should know about this?

I think there's a write up on here somewhere, do a search.

Yes the Avenger rear discs will work.  Not to hard of a swap to do.

is it that much to ask of people to do a simple search before asking questions that have been answered 10934750293475 times in the past.

Yes it is.  A lot of people are young and new to the car game, the don't understand the whole search thing.  Instead of people blasting him for it (I know you weren't) we (people on ASOG) have just started posting up the O.G. post and telling them how to search.

I'm sure you've been on ASEC for a while, it's a bit different over here.

Hi. I would like to know if it is possible to convert the rear drum brakes to disc brakes.
Yes
If so, what is needed,(i would be putting aftermakert parts),
You need: e-brake assemblies, rotors, calipers, brake lines. The only thing available aftermarket are rotors and stainless steel brake lines.
what kind of work is involved ect.
The most difficult part of the swap is removing/installing the hub bearing assemblies, converting the e-brake cable to fit, and bleeding the air out of the brake lines after the calipers are installed.
Would the handbrake still work?

Yes
Is there anything important I should know about this?
Set a whole day aside to do this.

Here are some pics to assist you with the install:
http://www.rcaz.com/rcaz/sub%20indexes/drum_to_disc/index.htm

All four of these cars use the exact same rear disc setup.

95-00 Chrysler Sebring
95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse
95-98 Eagle Talon

Thank you all for your input. Actually, I had done a search Wink I am not new to forums, just this one Grin I did have a life before getting my avenger, and i quite familiar with cars, thank you. I imagine there is also a posibility to get after market calipers, since the rotors can be swithed.

Yes, but I didn't mention it because it can get rather expensive.
I wasn't sure how your funds or budget stood and I really don't care to know.

The GSX is a direct bolt up too, the 3000GT you have to change your brake hoses.
