Flooding - help!!!!
« on: February 13, 2008, 12:33:58 AM »

97 Sebring, 4 cylinder 2.0 liter

So I made a real dumb move after heavy rain for two days and decided to go through a big puddle.  My car hasn't been able to start now for a week, and the temperature has not been above 20 since this happened so waiting for the thing to dry really isn't an option.  When I try to start the car, it begins to crank as if one of the cylinders is firing, but then dies.  I know for a fact that no water went into my tail pipe because I was able to get through the puddle pretty quick.  I took off my cool air intake and brought it inside for a day to dry so that's not it anymore.  Next I plan on taking the plugs out and cranking the engine to get rid of the water because I know there is water in the plug holes and then cleaning the plugs.  Other than that, I have heard it might be the starter that needs tapped to get rid of any corrosion that might be in there and that I need to get an oil change right away to get any water out of the oil and engine.  I was wandering if anyone else had had these problems and can help me out or what worked for them?

Thanks in advance.

If it's cranking it's not your starter.  You may have a bigger problem.  Depending on how much water you got into your intake.  You should drain your oil, leave the plug and the oil filter off for a day or two.  This SHOULD take care of the problem.  Water will ruin the internals on your engine, it could even cause it to seize.

Once the car is fully drained and left to dry after a day or two, put NEW oil and a NEW filter on.  Run 93 octane for a full tank.

If you still have problems, you probably ruined your engine.  Good Luck!

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP
