ok looking to get a CAI, and muffler anyone have experience with a good combo? i'm looking for power more then sound. and also my car doesn't have a a lot of pickup is that normal for a '95 dodge avenger 2.5l
I would get all the maintenance up to date including a tune-up, tranny flush, "engine oil flush," check the belts clean the throttlebody, get new spark plugs, the works, i can almost guarantee instant get up and go if u do these along w/ O2 sensors. basically what i'm saying is, make sure you have all these little things checked and done before progressing to change to any aftermarket parts, you'll be glad you did. any cai off ebay will work well w/ a 2.5L ( as long as its for the avenger). as for muffler, for a v6, power comes w/ sound, no compromise, get dynomax or flowmaster if u like muscle. good luck and welcome!
Ya id do what Jbi said to do. I noticed a big difference when i switched to synthic oil and new plugs. Id go with a flowmaster muffler they always sound really good.
Yea about that CAI i remember there was a pretty big arguement over what is better, the Ebay special or a name brand... But like name brands are nice if you wanna spend the money... but the ebay special is great for 40-50 bucks--> Thats wut I got and i would recomend it
the best throttle response will come from taking off your Throttle Body and cleaning it. When I bought my 99 Dodge Avenger ES, it was a v6 and was completely stock. At 48k miles, there was no need to change the plugs yet, but i did install an eBay CAI and after i changed to Mobil 1 synthetic [run a Purolator #PL14670 or a Napa Gold filter if you run a synthetic] I got 27 mpg highway and 24 city.
Hell I only run 20 city and maybe 23 highway... Dunno why mine is so crappy... Cold weather prolly.
cold weather does reduce ur mileage...sadly. and city #'s are variant, i mean the city that i drive in, there's a lot of traffic and lights, compared to the city my gf drives in. whereas she can get up to 50 mph (still there are stoplights every so often so its not the highway) i can get up to 35 if im lucky, where the city rapes you on gas. so i get about 17 mpg, i've gotten 26 mpg in the cold weather before, i reckon it'll go up to about 30 in warmer weather. the damn cars take a while to warm up, so the engine runs really rich until it does warm up.
