Weird Squeaking
« on: January 29, 2008, 03:18:42 AM »

Every time I turn my wheel or go over a bump there is some strange squeaking, actually its more like creaking... like if something needs greased or sprayed with some WD40... When I get in the car it doesnt creak but when I get out it creaks... Its definently coming from the front... any ideas?

get a friend, have them recreate the motion while you trace, there may be some electronic that u could use..but this is a cheaper method.

More than likely it's your springs. Depending on how much hell the car had been through before you owned it, i'd check those first.

springs, shocks, ball-joints, and bushings, could all be culprits.

i'd have to hear it, they all make creaking, squeaking sounds, but its differnt for each one. i know a buddy of mine had a jeep that creaked really bad, thought it was his springs, replaced his springs, still creaked. it was a bushing that was going bad.

If you can get the buddy to move the front end up and down, it doesn't have to be crunk. Plus if you have a slight [just enough for the car to roll forward] hill that it normally does it on, have someone with a STRONG foot use the brakes while it's turned off. NOTE: You won't have power brakes [probaly aware but for safety notification reasons I'm compelled to tell you that] so it will be a very hard pedal they press.
