So basically, if a 2.5 owner should want one, then said 2.5 owner should be bringing their car and the money by?

CMC

the higher the final ratio the lower the top speed the better the acceleration
however a lower ratio = more top speed and more traction too and if you have less wheel spin in the end the lower ratio could be quicker
a 3.94 could turn out to be too high since you have a 3.5l engine in your bay

maybe a dumb question...

does rim/tire size effect anything?

for example a 18" vs a 16" with same over all ratio?

that small of a change, you won't see a difference.

As long as you keep the same outer diameter of the combo [say it's 24" from tire top to bottom], it won't matter if there is an 18 or a 16 in the tire.

One of the things that matters the absolute most as far as rims: Weight of the rim.

But the general rule of thumb is:
Larger the wheel - more power it takes to make a complete revolution; There is more mass being moved.
Smaller the wheel - less power it takes to make a complete revolution; There is far less mass being moved.

And i've yet to really see you ask a dumb question CMC. lol

Lighter rim > Quicker acceleration > less fuel used during normal acceleration
Heavier rim > Slower acceleration > more horsepower consumed > more fuel used during ANY acceleration

Rim size doesn't really mean much, it's the overall size with the tire that would matter.
