Well that didn't last for long...
« on: January 20, 2008, 05:53:16 AM »

Well my younger brother used to drive a 2000 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 AWD... It was a GAS HOG! 9-11 mpg... So he decided to find a car that got better gas mileage...

We put the Explorer up for sale and started looking for something in the midsize 2 or 4 door area. We looked for Camry's Sebring's, Accord's etc...

The search came up with cars that had high mileage and needed some work... not worth it... A friend of mines parents just recently purchased a car for his sister, and got a good deal, so we took a ride by the dealer that they purchased it at. They had a 1999 Chrysler Sebring LXi coupe with 90K miles in really good condition, So we took it for a test drive and bought it!

So We picked it up Monday, got it insured and registered, and that was that!

Today he had Baseball practice, he got in the car and left... 15 minutes later we get a phone call... He was in an accident

And this is what caused the accident:

He was traveling straight through the green light when the 77 year old woman failed to yield to on coming traffic. My brother hit the brakes as hard as he could, but it was inevitable. The driver of the Civic was cited for failing to yeild, and was sent to the hospital. The Sebring took the wheel clean off the Civic, ripped the half shaft right out of the transmission... and the passenger, the drivers daughter got out of the car and started yelling at me brother, and from his words "look what you did to her car!"

Looks to be totaled Sad but he will probably get WAY more then he paid Cheesy

Now the friggin car starts AGAIN...

He's ok, the car did its job protecting him...

Gotta love a 5 star safety rating.

Glad he was ok.  Get him an Avenger or Eclipse next time, they look sooo much better.   Grin

Well at least he came out of it safe.  The stats show that teens are in the most accidents.  The stat they don't show you is the elderly are the biggest CAUSE of most accidents.

I was the head of Security for the Green Bay Transit System for a bunch of years.  One of the (many) accidents I responded to was an old lady that drove into the side of my bus, T-bone style.  She said she thought it was part of the road.  Roll Eyes

Glad your brother is ok.  Sucks about the car tho.  These cars have great 5 star ratings and we've heard stories about people flipping them a bunch of times and walking away even.  Hope he comes out ahead and thinks about buying another one.

I wish LOL

He doesn't know how to drive stick, and replacing clutches is not fun lol

I have 3 cars lined up that Im going to look at for him today

2000 Sebring LXi with 97K miles (green with tan interior, ABS moonroof)
2001 Sebring LXi Sedan with 60K miles (Burgandy, I know horrible color, but its got every option, extremely low miles for only 5K I know all about the 2.7L I had one LOL)
2000 Sebring LXi with 78K miles (platinum with tan leather ABS Moonroof)

Does anyone know how to cure the sag in the front bumper? The RIP White one the green one and platinum one all have the same problem the lower air dam is sagging... Why?

Damn that sux. RIP Sebring.. was nice to. Because it's identical to mine.  Grin

but yeah damn old lady's. I would not be too impressed. And I would have a hard time keeping my cool with the other person coming out and yelling at me.

Glad your bros alright...

The Lip on the sebring has a aluminum plate in it.. can be bent back up into shape.. might need to drill and bolt or reinforce it abit depending on how lose it is.

2000 Sebring LXi with 78K miles (platinum with tan leather ABS Moonroof)

Go with this one but go ahead and have the spark plugs replaced with Iridiums, and have a shop do it unless you really want to take the intake and everything off to easily [ha!] get to it. Leather interiors hold up much better and are easier to clean. Plus, it scores points with the ladies. lol

The Sebring is Totaled  Cry got the verdict on monday, got the check yesturday

Looking for its replacement

Can't find ANY Sebring/Avenger's worth looking at... I have found a few Cloud cars and LH's that are pretty decent... The insurance company gave us $5K looking to spend around $3500-4K so that he has money to use for Tax/insurance/ and misc repairs if need be...

I hope that we find something soon...

Well, It really was nice while it lasted!

(If anyone has see's a nice A/S or and nice car for around that amount in the MA/NH area please let me know!)
