Alright so a nun walks into a bar...

Engine knockin...?

All I know is I was coming home from work and all of a sudden I heard this noise under the engine. It sounds like if you would put cards in the spokes of a bike....just more of a metal sound then paper. It is nothing horrible like grinding but it thuds.....Any ways started driving again , started when I was accelerating , but when I come to a idle driving it goes away. I did the same test when I got to my house. I stopped the car and listen ....but nothing. Then I pushed the gas and it started again. It is coming from the under the valve cover right side. about where the "2.0" is. If someone has a idea what it maybe give me a shout. All I know is it is christmas time .....and this had to happen.

so I took the valve cover off to take a look. everything seems alright , nice and tight. I was hopin it was just a rocker......I'll keep you updated.

Hope it isn't an engine knock. Did you look at your timing belt, make sure it's tight.

The deck of cards in the spokes always makes me think of an exhaust leak. But I'm probably way off.

Bad lifter maybe? Probably a bad rod bearing though. If it's not knocking at idle, you may be able to get away w/ swapping the bearings out. Which you should be able to do in the car. If it's knocking at idle, the engine will have to come apart.

I know , It is not knockin at idle though so hopfully I dont see a rebuild in my future. it is just when I get going .....get near 30mph and thud thud thud thud...... I ended up changing my oil and while I was down there dropped the pan to look at the bearings. They looked alright , I did not see anything wierd. dropped some slick 50 to see if that may help but nope. So I'm going to check my timing next. I just dont know , If it jumped a tooth it would not do it would it...not like that. lifters seemed fine. rockers. If it is not the timing then I'm just bringing it to a shop. Hopin it is not a rod though. thanks for your help

you may not be off, I would check the exhaust first man, seriously, my friends eclipse (2006) had a similar sound, i checked and its just a loose exhaust heat shield, can also be a leak. check ur lowest cost options first. as shiano would probably say, why buy a meal if all u need is fries? Wink

Exactly. If you're dining in at Burger King, buy a SMALL cup because you obviously aren't paying for the liquid in the drink equation. Why would you be paying for free refills?

well just as a Feared , drove it to my buddys dads shop and it got bad. I pretty much knew what it was. Thrown ROD Sad

, well I dont know what I'm going to do. I'm just going to get a new car for now. Either wait til summer and use the venge as a project car down the road.....maybe I see a new build up for a turbo.....or just part it out. Dont know if I really wanna but the TIME and MONEY into it right now. thanks for your help thought guys. peace
