headlight restorer/defogger
« on: December 19, 2007, 09:54:28 PM »

hey guys, for all of you who've got fogged headlights(most of us avenger owners) i found a kit that is supposed to fix it FOR GOOD!!

19.95 at your local walmart its called "Crystal View headlight restorer/defogger" it comes in a little silver bag and it has 2 differnt grits of sand paper, rubbing compound, polishing cloths, and a protective finish compound

http://www.myheadlight.com/

i've only encountered one problem so far, you can't use it if its below 50 degrees(currently 35) and i don't want to remove my headlights, so when i get some time ill pull it into the shop take some pictures and let you guys know how it went. its only supposed to take 5 mins per light, but, knowing me, ill find a way to make it 30 mins per light, but oh well. but this kit beats the old fashioned wetsanding, because Crystal View has a LIFETIME WARRANTY. so if it fades after 5 years they pay for it(the kit im assuming, not the headlights).

i was in the holiday spirit and decided to let you all know before you went off and bought new lights or something. i was looking at buying some of the expensive xenon lights to power through the fog when i found this(yes i was looking at wal-mart, my autozoo sucks around here, they have the same stuff at walmart for cheaper).

anyway, wish me luck, and ill get pictures of the before and after once im done.

*sigh*  the heater in the shop is broken...so its 35 degrees in there too...when A. the heater gets fixed, or B we get a dry, warmer day, ill get around to it. really looking forward to nice clean headlights...

side-note; i just noticed my rockers are rusted out on the bottom, like big gaping holes rusted out. and i also discoverd that my car is toe-out, so my front tires(which are now on the back) have bald inner shoulders. twas a fun weekend of discovery, changed oil and found 2 problems. but since my back tires were the exact same tread thickess i now have a bit of a pull, oh well its just a slight annoyance til i get the money to get 4 new tires. good news is my brakes are still good, and my spark plugs look like new!!

another side-note; i don't know if i've said it anywhere here but the plastic piece right infront of my drivers side tire was loose, so when i hit about 60 it would start to rattle, well i found some copper wire and tied it down to my non-used fog light brackets. i know its a bit backwoods, but oh well it gets rid of that dang noise.

oh and before you guys say this is the first you've noticed that(to whatever part), i'd like to mention that i've had the car for less than a year and for the first year i didnt drive it that much (i was at a college that didnt allow freshman to have cars, im now at a community college offically learning to be a mechanic, not that i don't already know most of the basics) so i didnt really have time before now to actually look at stuff, rather than just getting in there and doing what i needed to do. im sure you understand.

anyway back on topic, ill let you know how it goes if i get around to using the product.

I tried several products, including a permatex kit, as well as wet sanding with mothers polish.

This kit was absolutely amazing!

Hard to come by but I found the stuff online if anybody has a yellowing foggy headlight problem. Just take your time wet sanding and follow it step by step and it will be great. My lights have remained clear for about 6 months so far
