how to manually "roll up" power windows?
« on: January 07, 2006, 08:59:55 PM »

hey guys, been a long time.. i like what's been done with the place Wink

anyway, my passenger power window has stopped working. unfortunately its in the down position and i can't figure out get the thing back up manually. i've look in a Hayne's manual, but it didn't have any info. btw, its a '97 Avenger ES.

thanks in advance.

Can you "force" it up?  Put one hand on each side of the glass, have someone press the switch and try and push up on it.  Otherwise I think you're stuck taking the door apart.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

i've tried lifting up on both bottom sides of the glass and i can get it to raise up about an inch but no further. it just sticks there.

when i try to use the switch, there is no sound from the motor. neither switch on the passenger or driver side works. i've checked the window lock, that switch is off. the power windows fuse is fine. the driver side window works fine.

this happened once before about a month ago, but the window wasn't all the way down.  but it started working again just a few minutes later.

Try moving the wires around.  If you have a wire tester or a multimeter use it and test for power at the motor.  If there's power you're motors junk, if there's no power then have fun trouble shooting the wire!

yeah, its a bad motor..  i don't have a volt meter, so i did the next best thing...hooked a 12v fan to the power lead going to the motor and hit the switch on the passenger side and the fan turned...

i guess the motor is seized up because i can't budge that thing at all.. i was trying to at least get the window up, but it won't go. and no one around here has a motor in stock; the soonest i can get it is monday morning.

and to add insult to injury, my battery drained down too low to even start the car because i had the door open for several hours messing with the window. so now i have to wait until my GF gets home so i can go up to Oreilly's and order the motor. and then take my battery across the street to Autozone to get recharged..

i've had Mondays that were better than today!   lol

yeah, i'd thought about that.. actually had 'em check when the one for the Avenger showed out of stock. they were the same part number, so no go there..

at any rate, the replacement motor is ordered.. should have it monday morning.. now i just have to go 36 hours with my car wide open to anyone who wants to poke their head inside..

thanks all for the advice.
