My cel has been on for a while and i just got it scanned at advance auto. The reader said it is a large evap leak. I heard not tightening the gas cap can do this but it has been on for a long time. What else can cause this?

AN exhaust leak, a really bad one, can cause it. When you start your car, can you smell gas really bad?

Actually sometimes when i start the car i can smell gas. About a year or so ago the downpipe busted and we had a new one put on. It doesnt sound like it has a leak though.

well when you go to drive, off the radio and heat/ac, or anything else that makes noise... Now you know that noise a computer makes when you turn it on, that's an  exhaust leak... Do you know how old your current exhaust is? It's supposed to be replace like every 7-8 years... Could also be a manifold.
