« on: November 14, 2007, 01:56:21 AM »

ok just did a complete rebuild with wisco 8.1 egal rods all done by michean shop ,,,......  going for full turbo lol anyway put the motor in myself .timming on mark and everything seems fine yet no start , engine cranks over and over ,,,my question is i blocked of egr also, now all lines and sensors are connected but i am having trouble what line connects to the fuel rail on the opposit end of the regulator is it vacuume , when i tryed start after disconnecting it there is gas in it ? mitchel calles it the fuel return hose , yet were does it go ? and the vacume chart for the car says that the nothing about it connecting??? plus would this make a hard first start..... another thing is the timming belt is mooving over with every crank , could i have put the gear on the oil pump on to far? upon a compression test all cylanders had 110 psi and held so valves arent messed ,yet if i am off by one tooth will the car not start ? i know these are probly realy stupid questions yet some help please....just to add all timming parts are new and this is a fresh rebuild plus i did crank motorr over manualy first .

Oh the memories of timing errors.  When I put my engine in the first BILLION times, I had issues with it not starting and it's timing related.  You have to remember that there are two ways to set it.  With the crank at TDC the camgear marks are lined up.  And if you rotate the crank one more full rotation, the camgears will be pointing the opposite way.  SOOOOO you need to turn the crank one full turn.  And then reset your camshafts.  This will fix the problem 99% guaranteed.

Also something else you might want to consider.  After dropping that kind of dough on a rebuild, you might want to consider paying someone else to do the timing.  Hate to see you void your machine shop warranty by not having the timing "Professionally" done.  Wink

dark is right i had all kinds of problems timing mine it would seem i had every thing set right and as soon as i put tension on the belt either the crank pully or the 1 of the cams would roll out. than i would have to start again its a bitch to get these cars timed right and if you dont get it right you can easily brake something. as far as the fuel rail has 2 lines on the drivers side the one with screws is the fuel in and the rubber hose is return. on the pass there is a vac line  it should go back to the rear of the intake

Only the 95s had return fuel lines.  Or was it only the 95s didn't??  Either way not all of the cars have the return lines

A return line is simply a line that fuel back to the tank through. There is no vacuum in it, no vacuum line os run to it or hooked to it. The fuel pressure regulator should have a vacuum hose on it though.

BTW guys my '96 fuel rail has a return line on it.

ok hooked up the line on the rail(fuel return ) to the line going to the front right front bumper o yea motor is a 98 sorry , tryed start turns over but wont catch . there are flames that shoting out (dont have manafold on yet . checked timming and it is off by one tooth could this be it (cams are dead on yet crank is a bit  one tooth out. re checked compression and it is fine so valves are still good thank god . yet is this the reason for no start?

Without being there it's hard to say.  I'd still vote timing.  Take it in.  You've already spent enough cash on the motor no reason to chance it now.

Fuel is actually dripping out of the ports? Are you sure you have spark?

Um if you have spark there isn't really anyway I can think of that fuel would make it out.  Once the spark hits, it's going to burn ALL the gas in the chamber, so it isn't going to make it out the exhaust side.

This is frustrating.  Are you anywhere near Green Bay, WI??  I'll swing by and take a look at it in person.  Also why are you against taking it in and getting it "professionally" diagnosed?
