So I've decided to hang on to my avenger and start doing body work on it.
I can fix most of it no problem (will need a new hood and the roof will be difficult) and will probably get a fresh paint job shortly (as in a month or so)
I'm going with a Maaco job and it's only $30 to change the stock color to anyone I want.
I'm kind of leaning towards stock green and having them paint the hood black but IDK
You cant go wrong with black, silver would be cool, or i can get it red since I have a red trans am that would be cool too...just to many options
i work in a restoration shop on the body side. a good paint job depends on a good prep job to have a solid foundation to adhere to. macco will not do a good prep job they will only lightly scuff and feather any edges and scratches the squirt it. they will not take off much of the paint when they prep it . this will cause a high paint build and the paint will be pron to chip and delamination . so with in 1-5 yrs car will look like mid 80's gm car. after the paint dries they will only lightly wet sand and then buff. you don't want that because you will still have heavy orange peal and it will look like a wet basketball. also macco is known for doing poor mask jobs and you will end up with heavy edges and maybe even original paint showing through around the edges of the window seals, trim ect. you will not be satisfied with a macco job i promise and within 1-5 years you will be looking to paint again. a car takes around a gallon of paint to cover. a gallon of cheap paint cost around 150. there is also other costs involved like primer sealer, clear, sand paper, masking supplies, buffing compound. macco may pay a little less for the paint but they still have to use all the things mention above . so if just the color cost 150 and you're paying 300 for the job the have to cut as many corners as they can to make it profitable for them. they will do this corner cutting in the area of labor. a properly prepped and painted job should last you 10-20 yrs not 1-5 yrs so you get what you pay for at macco. macco invented the term cobb job. my suggestion is to find someone locally who will do a better job and spend more time on it . yes it will cost more but it will last longer and look better as long as you can find some one who does good work. i would shop around a bit and ask for pics of past jobs, and to hear customer testimonies and maybe even past job references . if they wont give them to you its prob because they have something to hide. as far as the color i like green but i wouldn't go stock and i wouldn't paint the hood black. i would find a color that makes they car stick a little so i doesn't look like every other green avenger out there. i hope i have been able to sway you from the macco thing a little Ambrose
Never been a huge fan personally of the polo green. Paprika is a nice color or a match to your TA would be neat. I'm a fan of some of the rarer colors that were stock on these cars.. Prism Blue, Shark Blue, Chargold, etc...ones that you don't see everyday. Go for something fun as you are going to be driving it everyday. Black you might see any places they screwed up too easily. Green.. you have a red car and a green car.. it will look like christmas in your garage...lol. Good luck with any color you chose and make sure to post pics!
yea, it would be kind of cool to have two red cars...
I also considered bright blue (but that may look to rice for my tastes) or the chargold as well is a neat color
Anyways my TA ate another high perf fuel pump so it will take a bit longer to get some money for paint.
and as for maaco, i know they are not the best or ANYWHERE near high quality...I will be doing all the body work personally (which sadly is probably alot better than there work) and just having them spray a 300 buck paint job. I don't have money to spend a high dollar quality job and since the venge is just my DD it will be worth it even if it only lasts 1-3yrs (I know a few people who have had maaco jobs done, including me, and they have typically lasted 2-4 yrs looking good before they start to go flat)
charcoal is an awesome color...if not black, then charcoal..
that too...
someone on here has a silverish/charcoal looking deal if I remember right...had some stripes or something on the headlights
