« on: November 09, 2007, 03:33:41 PM »

whats up all? i just ordered a 2.4 for my 95 avenger. I have been wondering about the intake. it doesn't look like it will hold boost well. so i started searching at first couldn't find any aftermarket intakes for the 2.4 , but i finaly found a link on a old srtforums post. i thought you guys might like to see it

If you create your own, what makes a good custom intake as far as the inside of it?

*edit- that damn typo was getting on my nerves.*

I haven't done it, but that RX-7 you might remember, that guy did it.  To do it right, there are some serious calculations I guess.  If you're serious let me know and I'll ask him how to do it.

I know it takes serious r&d to build a good intake. even the guys who have been building intakes forever spend lots of time and money building intakes. like eldelbrock they have computer programs that design them and then they build them. i bet that they don't have many models that the build that are right the first ,second, third time and so on. building one you're self sounds a little defeating to me. you might be able to get to fit and look good but you may have little gain. yes 600 plus is very exspensive for a intake, but with over 30 hp and 20 tq  sounds damn good to me. i don't think i've ever heard of a intake with much gain on a 4 cyl. but hell if you can build it and get that kind of gain out and make it look as good than sign me up i' ll give you the 600 well when i'm not broke that is

LOL well that's the issue isn't it.

My buddy is a genius.  He put down 988 to the wheels with a bad wastegate.  We were hoping for 1200, but I guess it's back to the tuning.  His intake isn't the prettiest but it definitely does it's job.  And I'd have to see the dyno results of the intake to believe the claims.  And I'd want a guarantee that states if I don't get that kind of gains I get a full refund.

"30hp + 20trq gains."  well, the guy had a bundle of few mods to it which in combination with the intake produced those numbers, not just simple slap on of the intake.

just keep that in mind  Wink

i am assuming the reason you have some much gain is because it s a srt4 part, and the intake is set up for after market throttle bodies not the stockie. if you put that on a na 2.4 its prob more like 7 hp gain  Roll Eyes

I assume that you're going boosted, since you mentioned the intake doesn't look like it'd handle boost well. Must be getting a Stratus or minivan engine, w/ the plastic intake?

Why wouldn't you just use a SRT intake? unless you're pushing a lot of hp, you don't need a "custom" intake. There's plenty of 375-400+ hp SRT's running the stock intake.

yes stratus engine and the boost will come later. i like the intake rather than stock srt4 because of the obvious: gain and looks i have the 420a now and have the obx intake and i like they way it looks in car

I'm the only guy running a 2.4 of all of you would be me and only me and I'm back on the board after a 7-8 months hiatus

first you can't fit a stock 2.4 under your hood so stop looking for any external parts made for a 2.4 , NA or boosted
you don't drive a cloud cars, a neon, a pt cruiser, a caravan or a srt-4 you drive an avenger/sebring and nothing will fit
trust me on that one

I have read the posts on asec by alain. Very cool and informitive.I havent started my swap yet because I am waiting for space to free up. I have to use brother in laws garage so i have to wait for him to finish his project first. I know that its not a direct fit but I want to try to use the 2.4 head befor i resort to my old 2.0 head.I dunno if it will work yet because I haven't even got my 2.0 out of the car my plan is to use a pt cruiser header and mod it to fit our exhaust and then use the stock2.4 intake. as far as the mount and the crossmember I have a cpl of ideas i want to try. befor i settle on anything.

I'm a big south park fan
in the first year of the show there was an episode called A Pig Make Love To An Elephant
and of course we see that ... textually
and Chef said after earing Carthman little pig screaming in pain " now I know how all those white women fell"

now imagine that the female pig vagina is your engine bay and your rear exhaust 2.4 engine is the elephant penis
but unlike the female pig vagina the engine bay can't stretch one single inch

then you realize that your "header" can't fit between the engine and the firewall because we don't have enought space
then you realize that the firewall doesn't have a big notch in it to make space for a downpipe unlike all the cars on the planet with a rear exhaust engine
after that you could figure out that the hood won't close because of the slope and it will touch the 2.4 engine intake manifold

just make yourself a favor throw the 2.4 head in the garbage where it belongs and keep the rockers and lifters if they are the newer ones
don't try to reinvent the wheel the wheel exist already and it is proven that it could roll

I told you guys that the bitch was back

Alain

PS: make sure your engine is not a 2003 an up btw  Roll Eyes

lol nice anology I remember that episode. I have been waiting for you come and burst my bubble. The motor i have is a 1997 out of the stratus. I thought that the displacement differance between the 2 motors was in the head. Is this not true is it in the stroke or in the bore?
