Swap options
« on: December 03, 2007, 03:18:30 PM »

So most members here know I have had my v6 for the past 2 years and I have had a lot of problems with it....  Well I work at Bobb chevorlet and someone traded in like a 1997 eclipse that looks pretty clean the only problem is the motor has 200,000 miles on it... So if i get this I am going to want to swap out the motor before I do any mods to the car... So what are some possible motor swaps for this thing.... Cause the avenger and eclipse are basically the same thing... right?

There about two-three inches difference between the front of the engine bay and the exhaust manifold, as long as it has the 420a though, you'll be fine.

Also just pull the motor and rebuild it.  Nykon and I are both just taking the 420a and building the hell out of it (mine is nicer because of the nitrated and forged crankshaft.)

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

If you're thinking of swapping the V6 into the Eclipse, don't. Just rebuild the 420A w/ some forged slugs and drop a turbo kit in it.

well right cause I went out tonight and checked out the car and it is clean as hell on the outside... It is an automatic w/ like 150,000 miles on it which is the only thing that is holding me back from buying it... If it was a manuel i would be all over it.... but yea it is a completely stock 420a motor

Depends on what you want to do to the motor.  I am in it about $1500 for just the bottom end.  I still have to do the camshafts and goodies in the head.  Fortunately I am getting all my head work done for free cause I have the coolest father in law in the world.  If you just do a standard rebuild you can probably get away with it for around the same.  Performance upgrades cost.

the  420a can go a long way if its properly maintained.

Manual transmission swaps can be done for 100 bucks not counting the transmission itself. Some of that cost can be offset from selling your old AT items.
