Emily's car is dead as most of you know. She's looking at a 2005 Matrix XR, a 2005 Lancer (silver), or a 2006 Lancer (red) I'm not saying which one I like the most. I want Emily to see what other car people think.
The Matrix XR The Lancer ES (Silver) The Lancer ES (Red)
65,000 Miles 48,000 Miles 25,000 Miles No warranty 60,000 Mile warranty 60,000 Mile warranty $13,000 $9,995 $12,995 Cruise Cruise A/C A/C A/C
i will shoot you if you even let think about getting the matrix... nah im j/k. go with the red lancer. its 1 year newer. has about half the miles and only cost 3gs more. i think its worth it. also see if you can get a better waranty with that. an extra year or something
Matrix is a pile of excrement. Toyota's has been slipping ALOT on quality in the past 2-3 years. Too big for their briches. I would either try to talk the price down on the silver lancer or talk the warranty up on the red one.
I agree with Jim.. Silver Lancer since it has warrenty and cruise (you wouldn't have listed it if it wasn't important to her).. then the red one. Not fond personally of the Matrix.
Both lancers are high mileage [for their age] and The Matrix is only good for jumping from roof to roof and flying through the air [which you DON"T want Emily attempting].
Go for the Red
Better chance of it not having suffered permanent owner damage
The Silver is twice the mileage yet more than half the price of the Red
Easier to maintain a High level quality at this stage in it's life than at the 50k mile mark
Still in the same year that we are in. If anything, they were used as rental cars. If so, see reason 1.
Since it barely has the High Mileage status [12k/year] see if the dealership will come down to 12000 even. If they ask you why, you may be able to outsmart them by stating: "If you take 1000 off the mileage and 1000 off the price, I would feel much better paying you $2 per mile on the car vs you only getting $1.92 per mile on the car. This way, you get more for the miles on the car intstead." I guarentee you, the average car salesman is so wrapped up in trying to sell you the car that they won't realize they are getting the short end of the deal by $0.08/mile. lol
If the salesman is actually a little bit intelligent, he will catch that and ask why you really want to take $1000 off. Simply tell him that the car is classified as High Mileage by Kelly Blue Book and the NADA Black Book. It may not since it's right there at it by 1k miles but this hesitation puts the salesman on the thought line of he's losing the deal, therefore he will try to find ways to sweeten it. Of course, the dealership wants to make a profit off the car, but you're the one paying for the middle man. But, you already knew that. lol
Go for the Red one. Make sure you install a failsafe thermostat the first day you get it though. no need for a repeat.
first of all why would anyone in there right mind say the silver lancer. it has the same warrenty and MORE miles than the red one. so what if it has cruise. its pointless unless your driving a hundred mile strech on a highway. and its safer to not use it. pple get to comfortable with cruise. not to mention that its only one more thing that could go wrong with the car. i had a freind who had cruise and it locked up on him. when he was braking the car didnt shut the cruise off and it thought that it was just slowing down causeing the engine to rev up and get it up to speed. sent him into a telephone pole at 60 mph. he ended up in critiacal before passing away. SO EFF THE CRUISE. go with the lower miles n newer of the 2. talk the price down a bit and try to get a better warenty

From what he wrote only the silver one has warrenty on it.. the red does not. That's why people are saying the silver one. Tho I can't see how the red one doesn't have warrnety at all, but guess not!
