all i know is my car did it. It is worse on cold days as well, what it turned out to be was a bad serpintine belt and the car tore through two of them before everything was ok. If you dont get it fixed it gets worse and will do it when the engine idles then one day when your goin 30 through a very sharp turn it will tear that belt and you'll go into other traffic, (i know its happend to me)
No.. GM is a spring loaded tensioner which I like alot better btw.
These tensions are manual.. with Pulley's that blot loose... One for the crank, alt, Power steering... And one for the water pump. You can reac them from the top.. with some rachet extensions.

Yea my car has the same problem... and Gr8 you said something about the power steering pump which is what I thought too because compared to all other automatic cars mine is difficult to turn...
I hadnt been driving the car so i got the story from my gf at the time who had borrowd it. she freaked out and i had to call a towing company to go get it and her. I sent it to a shop and found it was just the belt. so its not a big deal like fixit said the appearance of the belt has nothing to do with the belt being good. Check the tensioner and see whats up it could be loose from the sounds of it, but if it dosent get fixed it will shred that thing.
if belts are loose, they will screech, too tight, they will screech, just a bit overtightened will not make them screech, do this while the car is running to make sure ur not too loose or overtightening.
where's my karma bitch??? ne way i need to tighten mine..just fixed my valve cover leak, cleaned my engine, now im debating where i should start...entertainment system? or motor??...winter is coming , i think ill go with entertainment system while saving for my 3.0
