rotor replacement.
« on: October 17, 2007, 12:48:53 PM »

I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the LABOR COST would be to have all rotors + master cylinder replaced. this includes the brake pads and calipers and bleeding and all that.  I was quoted at $350- seemed a bit high, but I wanted to see what you guys think.

it depends on the shop 350 isnt to bad but i would shop around. the whole thing shouldnt take more than a few hours to do though so if they tell you it will take all day or some crap like that or if they are charging you for 8 hours of work then forget that shop.

350 sounds right, but I say man up and do it your damn self!!  You can design prototype exhausts, but not do some brake work?? Lips sealed

yeah..the $350 is a bit steep, but they already have the car...towed a good while...i can replace the rotors, i never tried but i know its not difficult. its just when it comes to the cylinder is where i got a problem..ill get some negotiation skills down...see if i can get it done for $250...ill let y'all know how it goes..its being finished in the shop for winter. they do everything including bodywork/electrical, so if they're a good shop, then I can invest in them w/o worries.

I'm not a brake expert but from everything I've read, drilled rotors are a no-no unless they're high grade.  They have a bad habit of cracking and warping.  Slotted is the way to go if you want a bit of a performance gain, but not the big bucks.
