surging, kicking issue.
« on: October 03, 2007, 02:19:16 PM »

When the car is cruising at super low speeds like around a parking lot it feels like it surges sometimes, this is only under light gas, this does not happen at no gas.  Also when cruising at 55-60 MPH if you find that spot in the gas pedal where it's a light amount of gas that holds steady at 55-60mph it feels like it's bucking and there's somewhat of a clunking sound, the whole car like kicks.  It's not a consistent feeling either, some 'kicks' will be hard and rough, others will be a slight rocking or surging feeling.  This morning as I was cruising around the school parking lot it started doing this 'kicking' and it died.  I put it in park and restarted it, got her moving again and no problems.  Well I KNOW it's not the engine, dist. cap, dist rotor, spark plugs, plug wires or anything timing related, I just had all of that replaced and this same issue was happening on the 2.5 before the 3.0 went in.  I thought it had to be the torque converter going bad like engaging and disengaging, but when it died today I was a little puzzled.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

-Eric

the tranny, is it the A604 that was in before you did the swap? if so, when was the last time the filter and fluid was changed?

I'm thinking that it might have something to do with the swap. Did they replace the tranny mounts? i can't remember.

Well it was doing it on the old engine too.  But yes the mounts were replaced.  I replaced the fuel pump relay today too, still no luck.  Had it looked at by Aamco transmissions, transmission is perfectly fine.

I'm lost and pissed

If you can afford it, find a spare A604. Yes I know that can be alot to ask. lol. But, if the spare A604 still does it, then it's not a problem with the transmission. Possibly the TCM? They have to be flash programmed at the dealership. When you changed the fluid [i'm guessing 'yes' b/c it was 15k ago], did you use ATF+3 or ATF+4 only or did you use any kind of additive/other transmission fluid?

Have you brought it back to Disturbing?  Have the check it out.  Even if it's not their doing, they should be able to troubleshoot it for you.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

It was ATF 4+ ONLY.  New fluid and filter.  No additives, and I can't afford/get a second tranny to try.  I'm going on the word of Aamco that's it's fine.

I would let Disturbing Motorsports play with it, but they're 5 and a half hours away :-(
